This month’s inspiration photo below is from Yvonne over at Stone Gable.  If you haven’t been following Yvonne’s blog you really should.  She has the greatest inspiration.  Her home styling tips are amazing.

Here on today’s blog I am going to share how my table can be used all through the year.  It’s easy and less stressful decorating for a season when all I have to do is change a few pieces to give it a new look.

I love keeping a pretty tray on our coffee table for a base piece.  I have several trays I either purchased or I have made myself.  If you want to check out all my DIY tray tutorials click on ⇒ DIY TRAY TUTORIALS.

I found a tray that caught my eye in Pier 1. I looked at the details on the tray and thought I could make it.  It’s a beautiful tray and has a perfect rustic style to it. If you are wanting more details here is the link to the tray. Rustic Wooden Beads Tray

Thinking about the items I need to make the inspirational tray, I remember I had a lot of beads left over from our daughter’s light fixture.  To view the light fixture I am talking about click on → LIGHT FIXTURE.  I also had an old cabinet door that I found on one of my trips to the thrift store.  I think I could possible make the tray with everything I have here at home without having to go out and buy one thing.  🙂

I first cut a piece of board I had in the garage to the size of the cabinet door.  Sanded the edges.

To get the look of the beaded tray I am taking the larger beads gluing with wood glue to the back of the cabinet door.

I glued the beads all around the back side edge of the cabinet door.  Do you see what I am using to keep my beads straight?  ha!  It was a paddle I use to scare my kids with.  You can tell my daughter really was afraid of it.  She drew on it. 🙂   I let the beads dry over night.

Once the glue dried and the beads were on secure I mixed Truffle and Hazelnut chalk paint together to get the color I wanted to paint the tray.

I added wood glue to the top of all the beads and placed the board (painted side down) onto the glued beads.

I let that dry for several hours.  When it was dried I painted the board I turned it over when it dried and painted the top of the cabinet door.

I did my white washing technique to the tray and then added some black dry brushing to it as well.  I added a coat of Minwax finishing wax on it.

To keep it from scratching furniture I placed felt pads to the bottom of the tray.

What do you think?

Now to start styling my fancy tray.  I am adding some height and light to my tray with candle holders and my battery operated candles.

I love to bring in some color and texture by using greenery or flowers.

Adding some fillers to the tray.

Changing for the Fall season is easy.  Changing a few items is all I needed to do.

Isn’t it easier to decorate your coffee table for the season when all you have to do is change out one or two items?   It is for me.

I use the steps below to create a simple coffee table vignette.

  1. Using a tray for a base to display all the décor pieces
  2. Bring in some height with candle holders or vase with flowers
  3. Bring in some texture
  4.  Add your fillers – adding theme items to give the vignette character
  5. Style in odd numbers

I hope my tips on creating a simple coffee table display helps you.  Save this for later when you are styling your table.
