DIY CHALKBOARD CHALLENGE | CHALK COUTURE

Hey there!  Coming at  you with a super cute chalkboard DIY.  Each month on the first Wednesday I host a DIY Challenge with different themes each month.  This month’s theme is chalkboard, at the bottom of my page I will list all my friend’s chalk board crafts for you.

If you are coming over from Tammy Patina and Paint’s blog, welcome!  I just love all of Tammy’s crafts, she makes the cutest things.

For my chalk board item I am working with Kristy, Chalkloose.   I met Kristy on Facebook, we live fairly close to each other, how neat is that?  Since the DIY challenge was all about chalkboards, she gave me several ideas using Chalk Couture items.  She knew I have never worked with their transfers or the paste, she had me do a little transfer myself.  Oh, I am hooked now!!  No experience needed friends!!  Comes out perfect every time.

On Kristy’s kitchen counter I spotted a Bistro spinning chalk board sign,  I thought it was from Hobby Lobby, but no, it was a Chalk Coutour’s item.  They don’t only sell transfers and paste, they have a catalog full of wonderful surfaces to use, as well.

For easy application of a design, the plate removes by unscrewing the top knob.

I decided to use the same saying Kristy had on hers.  (I was recently told the transfer is out of stock, no worries, I am sharing some of my other favorites).

Let me show you how easy it is to use a Chalk Coutour transfer and  Chalkology paste.

Peel off the transfer from the backer sheet.

Apply the transfer to your surface.

A few tools are needed;

  • stir stick
  • squeegee
  • Chalkology paste. (I am using bright white paste)

Chalkology Bright White Paste

Open your Chalkology paste, stir with a Chalk Couture stir stick.  The paste should be the consistency of sour cream.

Add a small amount of paste on your squeegee.  Chalk Couture has two sizes of squeegees.  A mini and a small.  I am using a mini squeegee.

Apply a thin coat of paste over the transfer with the squeegee.

Remove any excess paste from the squeegee into the container.

With the squeegee, scrap off any excess paste from the transfer.  Making sure there is no clumps or lines of paint.

Let the magic begin!

This part always excites me!  Lift the transfer, (lift from top to bottom or side to side). DO NOT lift from the corners, this may cause the transfer to stretch.

This was so simple and look….no bleed throughs.

Until you are ready to clean your transfer, place your transfer sticky side down in water.  When time to clean your transfer, use a sponge or better yet Chalk Couture has a board eraser that works wonderfully.

Screw the board back in the frame.

Place it on your counter top or a shelf and admire your Chalk Couture creations.

In a video I also released today, I share the other side of the board decorated for Christmas.  (It is Christmas in July time)! To watch my video click here → CHRISTMAS CHALK COUTURE SIGN.

  1. This is so cute Terrie!
I wish i hadnt got the dates mixed up and been so busy because I would have loved to have joined in here.
Loving this challenge that you all did..
    Love the tutorial too..
    Teresa!

    1. Teresa getting ready to build a home can be crazy. I can’t wait until you have it all finished so you can share your beautiful home with us.

  2. Your adorable chalkboard sign would be so cute incorporated into a wedding reception or shower, Terrie! I could even see using these for a brunch buffet to mark the different goodies! Love how easy and professional the chalk lettering turns out! Pinning!

  3. Okay Terrie, you got me. I thought this was a Christmas sign. I lovoe this idea and I am going to check them out.

Sorry I’m late. We lost power, thank godness for our generator. Unfortunately doesn’t fix internet connections.

  4. I was completely thrown off with your post picture. You totally fooled me and I expected a Christmas in July post, LOL. One of my favorite people to follow is Shabby Creek Cottage. Her Chalk Coutour videos are ASMR…so oddly relaxing to watch. Anyhoo, I love your sign and the fact that it serves multiple seasons. So smart! I foresee a lot more Chalk Coutour craft projects in your near future ;>)

    1. I watch her too Kelli! Although I watch a lot of people’s pages when doing a craft, so much fun. Yes you can bet on that, I will be using it more!

    1. Gail, I hope you do, when doing a stencil there is sometimes bleed through, with the transfers no matter how you squeegee the paste on it doesn’t bleed through very professional looking.

  5. Terrie I am in love with that sign!!!!! I have seen Chalk Coutour several times but wasn’t sure if it was something that I wanted to do. However, after seeing this I may need to give it a second look. Great idea.

    1. Tammy, you know how often we use stencils or Cricut designs, this is so easy to make and it comes out beautiful each time with no touch ups at all. Kristy has a Facebook page that you can check out all the cute ideas and items she uses.
