DIY DOLLAR TREE PILLAR CANDLE HOLDER

Hello Friends!  Hope you are having a great weekend? Did you do anything exciting?  The weather was absolutely gorgeous here.  I can’t say I did anything to enjoy the beautiful weather, but I did do something productive.  I brought all my Christmas decorations down from our attic and cleaned the attic while it was almost empty.  That was an all day job.  I still have the outside decorations up in the attic but it is nicely stored for now.

Today, a Warehouse store (in our town) is having their Christmas Open House and I am going with my daughter.  So excited.  They have tons of Christmas displays set up for you to drool over.  Oh my!  I feel the need to keep my credit card at home.  Not too sure if I need anything, BUT I am sure I will want a lot!  If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook….I posted a photo of my tubs down from the attic.  Now do you think I NEED anything? ha!

For my DIY Sunday blog today I wanted to share with you how I made a candle holder using all Dollar Tree items.  I like my setting on the mantle now, but I am thinking I need larger candle holders. Here is what it looks like now.  Don’t you think the candles sticks are lost in the setting?

I went into my craft closet to see what all I had on hand to make two candle holders.  I have seen many YouTube videos of people making candle holders out of Dollar Tree items so I knew it was possible.  I looked at my stash and here is what I found to make my candle holders.  Believe it or not….I had this all in my closet.

All of the items were purchased at the Dollar Tree besides the E6000.  I just wanted to show you which glue to use for this project.  I used the Fix-All.

  • 4 of the votive holders – I only had 4 of the silver on hand, but they carry all 4 styles.
  • 2 glass candle holders –  make sure that they match.  They carry different styles. (I learned that the hard way once).
  • glass tapered candle holders -These are not like the ones I am using.  I had these for several years. Dollar Tree doesn’t carry that style now.  You could maybe use this candle plate.
  • silver napkin rings (package of 6 I used 4)
  • E6000 or the Fix-All Adhesive from the Dollar Tree. I like both, but usedthe Fix-All since I wanted to use all Dollar Tree products.

A total of $9.

Let me get started on showing you how I made my candle holders.

I took the 4 silver tea-lite and remove the labels from the bottom.  I soaked mine in water.  After I remove the sticky residue from the bottom I made sure they were completely dry.

Where I will be applying the glue I sanded lightly.  I used a damp paper towel to wipe off all the dust.

I took the glass candle sticks and apply glue around the edges.    I tried to stay in the inner edge to avoid the glue from dripping over the outer edge.

I took one of the silver tea-lite and turned it upside down on the table and placed the candle stick to the bottom of the tea-lite.  Making sure that it was centered.  I let them dry.

I took a napkin ring and applied glue to one end.

I placed it inside the other tea-lite.  Making sure it was centered and straight.  Made two of these. I let them dry for 20 minutes.

Next step taking the tapered tea-lite section and applying glue to the napkin ring. Again being careful that the glue doesn’t go on the outside edge.

I then took the tapered candle holder and placed it ontop of the glued napkin ring.

Turning the candle stick portion right side up.

I took one of the napkin rings and glued around the edges.

Placed the napkin ring inside the tea-lite.  Let them dry.

I applied glue to the napkin ring and then attach the silver tea-lite and tapered candle holder to the bottom section.  Making sure that they are all straight. Let them dry for 2 hours.

I think this is more of a glam-formal look.  They are so pretty.

Wouldn’t they look so pretty in an “Ice” theme tablescape?  Something like this.  Don’t you think the candle holders I just made would go perfectly with this tablescape?  With some ice blue pillar candles. WoW!

I wanted to show you what they would look like styled on my bedroom dresser.

On my fireplace mantle I want a different look.  So I painted them.  First with brown spray paint.

Then I dry brushed them with paint that I had on hand from painting my kitchen table and hutch.  Benjamin More Advance Dove white.  You can use any type of paint.  Craft paint would work also, just make sure you seal it after you paint it.

I placed both of the candle holders on my fireplace mantle.

Which way do you like the DIY candle holders, painted or left glass and silver?  I like both ways. I might have to go back and get more supplies and make an ICE tablescape for my Christmas dinner that we will be hosting for our friends this Christmas season!

  1. Ok, I just seriously fell in love with these Candle Holders. I am also curious to see where you got the bird and birdcage? You have inspired me {{{{hugz}}}. Have a very blessed week ahead 🙂

    1. Hello Karen, Thank you for your sweet comment. The birds I found a couple years at a store called Tuesday Mornings. And the bird cage, man that thing is very old. I want to say I found that at a thrift store. I was thinking about painting it white but hadn’t. I like the wood look. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. You are sweet.
