I have a fun little project to share today.   I finished a pin cushion for my sewing desk.  It came out so cute I just have to share it with you!   I have had my little red round pin cushion for several years, probably 34 years now. It still works for me, but I want something cute to sit on my desk.

My craft room is about finished.  To follow my progress, you can go review previous craft room blogs here → CRAFT ROOM.

For my pin cushion I used:

  • An empty travel size dish soap bottle
  • Dollar Tree package of sand
  • Dollar Tree glass candle stick
  • Poly fill
  • white burlap material
  • thread and needle
  • scissors
  • hot glue and E6000
  • Dollar Tree doily
  • ribbon and embellishments of your choice.
  • spray paint – color of your choice

Taking the sand and the soap bottle, I filled the bottle with sand.

I took the glass candlestick and painted it white with Rust-oleum.

I glued the poly fill all over the bottle leaving the bottom free from the batting.

Taking fabric and pinning it tightly around the bottle pushing the filler into the pinning area.

Taking some quilting thread  I am stitching around the entire bottle.

Cut the extra material leaving 1/4 inch beyond your stitch line.  Fray the ends and trim evenly.

Taking more of the poly fill I stuffed more inside the form to make it fuller.

Gluing the candlestick to the bottom of the bottle.  I am using E6000 and Hot Glue.  Trim the extra fabric from the bottom and hot glue to the candlestick.

Here is the fun part, decorating your pin cushion.  To make a full skirt I am using a left over Dollar Tree doily, stitched to gather the doily and sewn it to the waistline of the dress form.  Adding a ribbon to hide the edge of the doily, I took an old tape measure made a little bow gluing a little pearl embellishment to the center and added it to the skirt.  Adding a few decorative pins and a couple of lace button to finish her look.

I am placing my pin cushion on my sewing desk, but wouldn’t this look great in a bedroom to hold your jewelry or a little girls bedroom?  Skies the limit here with this cute little pin cushion.

If you want to make you a cute pin cushion to style in your sewing area or style in your home….
