Hey there!  It’s Terrie over at Decorate and More with Tip sharing another DIY Challenge with my group of talented DIYers.  We are bringing you some wood Fall inspiration.  To give you a little more detail on our DIY challenge, our group shares a DIY project on the first Wednesday of each month making the same thing, but adding our own personality touches and our own spin on it.  Not only do you get some inspirational ideas but you also see it done in different styles.  How fun is that ??

This month’s challenge is to use scrap wood we have and make something to style in our home for the Fall season.  I will list all of my friend’s blog links down at the bottom of my page.

Y’all I have the wood!!  My neighbors tore down their wooden shed and was so kind in giving me all the wood I wanted.  Yep….Let’s say Mr. Tip wasn’t too fond of me taking up most of the room in our shed. ha!  I keep telling him I need a SHE SHED. 🙂

Are you excited to see how I put my spin on the little truck I made ?!  Well, wait no more….here is my tutorial on my little vintage Fall truck!

I used a piece of 2×4 and cut three pieces to the size below.

• 12 inches – for the base of the truck
• 6 inches – for the base of the cab
•  3 inches – for the top of the cab

I sanded all three pieces to smooth the rough edges.  I also sanded the top edges of the 6 inch and 3 inch piece of wood to a more curve shape.  After I sanded all three pieces it’s time to attach the pieces together.

I am using wood glue and a nail gun to attach together.

Taking the 6 inch piece applying the wood glue to the bottom, making sure the rounded edge is used for the top.

Attaching the glued 6 inch piece to the edge of one end of the 12 inch piece.

Using the nail gun nailing the two boards together.

Taking the 3 inch and apply glue, add this to the back end of the 6 inch piece.  Nail it to the board.

Can you see how the truck is coming together?  Amazing! 🙂

I took a piece of 1 x 4 and made four circles.  I used the jigsaw to cut the circles out.

Sanded the circles smooth.  They aren’t perfectly round but they will work just fine.

Before painting my truck I decided to add wood filler to the “cab” part to combine the two parts.  If I were to make another one I would only sand the curve part half way on the 6 inch piece of wood.

Taking the 4 wheels and painting with Waverly Ink chalk paint.

Now that the wood filler is dry I am painting my truck’s body Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore.

I am going to add the 4 wheels to the truck with the same steps as adding the wood pieces together.

To dress up the tires I am using a washer and a thumb tack.  I centered the washer and tapped in the thumb tack.

Super cute isn’t it?  Just wait…I am not done knocking your socks off with my creativity. 🙂

For the front and back bumper I wanted something to look like a bumper.  I remembered I had a broken hair barrette.  I took the barrette apart.

I took two more thumb tacks and painted red.

I painted the cover of the barrette black.  I added the barrette with E6000 and hot glue (for a fast hold until the E6000 dried) to the back of my truck.  I pushed in the two red thumb tacks for tail lights.

For the front~I had to give that a lot of thought.  I had the rest of the barrette for the front bumper but I needed something for a grill and headlights.  Looking in our junk drawer, do  you have any of those drawers?  I have a couple….ok more than that. ha!  I found two furniture gliders.  I cut the nail off of both of them to use as the headlights.  Now for the grill.  I looked through my stash and found this SOOOO old pumpkin basket.  It will work perfectly.  I cut out a little square, bent it a little to make a good shape and spray painted it white.

Here is what I came up with for the front part of my truck.

I broke off the pieces so the end pieces will lay flat on my truck.

Glued the parts on the wood with E6000 and hot glue.  I gave the headlights a little detailing.

For the bed of my truck I want wooden sideboards.  I took some left over planks from my DIY sunburst mirror from last month’s DIY Challenge.

I cut my planks

• 4 ~ 1 inch x 5 inches
• 7~ 1 inch x 2 1/2 inches

To create my sideboards

• 5 of the 1 x 2 1/2 slats glued them vertically on the back of the truck
• took the 1 x 5 and glued as vertical slats

I distressed the body of my truck to give it a more vintage look.

Now for the windows.  I painted the windows Elephant gray Waverly chalk paint.  I painted a little handle to each door too. 🙂

Isn’t this little truck the cutest?  And just think, it was made out of scraped wood.  I found everything to dress it up around my home.

Now to style it for Fall.

I am going to have fun styling him for every season.
