DIY TEXTURED THRIFT STORE VASE

Today I am sharing how I transformed a thrift store vase that I purchased a couple weeks ago.

It was only a dollar, so it won’t disappoint me if this transformation doesn’t work.  I have seen several tutorials on changing an appearance of a vase using different products.  I am using joint compound and spackling to my vase to give it an updated look.

First step:

I started with a clean vase and some joint compound.

Spread the joint compound over the entire vase. For more control, I used my hands.

Let the first coat dry over night.

Giving the vase a second coat of joint compound, using a chip brush making vertical lines to finish it off.

Keeping the brush strokes going the same way.

Let it dry completely.

Sanding lightly the entire vase, then use a damp cloth to wipe down the vase .  I spray painted the vase with Rust-0leum Painter’s Touch in the color French Blue.

Once the paint dried, using my fingers I applied one layer of spackling to the vase.

Let dry for about two hours.

Again, sand the entire vase lightly, with a damp cloth wipe the entire vase.

To seal the vase I used Krylon Flat Clear spray paint.
