It’s a DIY Day in the kitchen!  I am going to address our pink grout lines in the kitchen’s backsplash.   Joining me in a kitchen DIY will be Tammy Patina and Paint and Corine Junk to Gems, I will have their DIY (Do It Yourself) linked at the bottom of my page.

How to paint discolored grout lines

Start by removing the plug-in plates, clean and dry the backsplash.

There are many options when painting grout lines.  There are paint pins and grout paint to buy all probably would be a great way to paint grout lines.  But for my project, in my past project I used latex paint on the grout lines of our master bathroom’s floor 3 years ago, it has held up great with daily use.  To view that DIY project you can view here UPDATING GROUT LINES.

The color paint I will be using Even Better Beige by Behr.  The same color as our wall color in our home.  Also, a small stiff craft paint brush to apply the paint.

When applying the paint, I did a rubbing stroke instead of painting the paint on, making sure the paint went deep into the grout.

I painted every single grout line in our backsplash, I let it dry for an hour.

To remove the paint, I used hot water, dish soap and a scrubbing pad.

Using a scrubbing pad to remove all the paint off the tile then wiped it all down with a microfiber cloth.

The last step I applied a spray on sealer.  This step probably isn’t necessary, but since I had it on hand, I decided to apply it to the backsplash.  I followed the instructions.

Painting the grout lighter was budget friendly and a great decision.  In fact, it didn’t take much paint in my sampler paint to cost more than $3.00.  The backsplash has brightened up a lot and looks great!

Painting grout was super easy — if you want to see exactly how I did it in a video, you can view in one of my social medias below.
