HOW TO MAKE A JOY BANNER GARLAND

Hey there!  Welcome back to our monthly Pin Challenge!  This challenge is a lot of fun and gives us a chance to make something we see on our Pinterest feed.

The theme of this month’s Pin challenge is anything Christmas.  This is probably my favorite PIN challenge of the year.  For this Pin challenge I am going to work on a Joy garland banner to hang on the window up on my mantel.  Here is the pin I am using for inspiration, METAL JOY BANNER, I am going to make mine out of scrap wood.

I purchased the wooden letter at Dollar General.

I took the letter O to measure how large I needed to make the flag part of the banner.  Making the pattern I took a piece of copy paper and drew the pattern I wanted.

Tracing my pattern on to a piece of underlayment I had from previous projects.  Using a circular saw I cut three flags.

I marked at each top corner where I need to drill holes to thread the twine through.

I gave my items two coats of paint, the three flags with Waverly chalk paint in the color of Plaster and the three letters with Apple Barrel paint in the color of Cardinal red.

After the paint dried I grabbed my liquid nails and attached the letters to the flags.

To make my garland I am using twine and red wooden beads.  I measured the distance I needed my banner to hang on the window and cut the twine about 10 inches longer.

At one end of the twine I made a loop and a knot large enough to keep the twine from slipping through the bead.

In between each flag I placed 6 beads.  I slipped the twine in the front hole of the flag and thread it through the other hole from the back.  This hides the twine.

After I placed the last 6 beads I made another loop and knot to finish the garland.  That’s it!

Come back tomorrow where I share my full Christmas mantel and hearth with you.

  1. That turned out great! I just made my first banner ever (out of paper) for our mantle this fall for Thanksgiving and have been thinking of making some kind of banner for the holidays too. Pinned.
