MILK CAN MAKEOVER

How lucky am I?  I went into my mother-in-law’s small garage and there sitting in a corner was a rusty topless milk can.  I asked her really nicely 🙂 if I could have it.  I wasn’t too sure how I was going to paint the milk can due to all the rust, but I just knew I had to have it.  I was asking everyone I knew where I could take the milk can to get it sand blasted?  I asked the right person, my boss, he told me that he has this stuff called Corroseal.  He brought me a little jar of it to use.  I tested it out on my dragonfly.  You can check out my DRAGONFLY here.  Since it worked so well on that, it was time to give my milk can it’s makeover.

Here is what the milk can looked like when I brought it out of her small little garage.

I took a wire brush and gave it a good sweeping and cleaning.

I used a chip brush to apply the Corroseal onto the milk can.

I read when applying the Corroseal it should turn black if it turns grey reapply.  I think I am good, wasn’t for sure if this was black or dark grey.  I just assumed it was black. 🙂

I am not too sure what cause the white little specks in the Corroseal.  Not sure if it was my brush or the rust.

Once that dried I spray painted the entire milk can with black Vaspar Outdoor spray paint.

I let that dry for 24 hours.  I searched online for a split T monogram.  I printed it out and enlarged it to 6 inches tall.

I used a piece of contact paper and a glue stick with my print out to make my own stencil.

I glued the print out to the top of the contact paper.

Taking my craft knife and cutting out just the letter.

Removed the back of the contact paper and applied it to the milk can.

I had to add some painter’s tape to help the stencil on. I used the same paint as I did on my planter that I shared on TRASH TALK.

Adding the paint only to the cut out part.

Removed the stencil.

I free-handed some details to the T.  Our last name, the pattern on the print out and a bow to the neck of the milk can.

My next project is to paint the front door, not that it needs it.  I am wanting a lighter color.  I’m sure I will share with y’all the transformation. 🙂

It isn’t perfect, but free-handing the letters and designs, it’s close enough for me. 🙂

I am so happy my mother-in-law let me have the milk can.  I placed it out on our front porch.

Don’t you like a good Before & After shot?  Here is mine!
