If you hate the way your bathroom looks, a full renovation is not in the cards, you may want to read how I transformed our guest bathroom with paint.
This refresh I did A LOT of painting. Starting with the vanity cabinet.
The Power of Paint
The Vanity
Here is a reminder of what it looked like before this refresh.
I painted the cabinet with Studio Clay (Shermin William color) chalk paint (I had Lowe’s tint the chalk paint). Gave the cabinet two coats, I then did a wax technique with dark wax by Behr. Last step I gave the cabinet two coats with Polyurethane in Matt finish.
The Hardware
For the cabinet hardware, I used the same hardware but stained the wooden handles black and spray painted the metal with Rust-Oleum Metallic Gold spray paint.

The Faucet and Bathtub Fixtures
The next project I wanted to change was the bathroom faucets and bathtub/shower fixtures.
If you look close enough you can see some yellowing appearing on the fixtures. Instead of replacing them, I wanted to try Gold Leaf Rub ‘n Buff to see if it would work.
Before
After two coats of Rub ‘n Buff and a topcoat of Rust-Oleum Ultra Semi-Gloss clear sealer.
I am not sure how long they will last, but for now they look fantastic.
The Light Fixtures
Another project I changed with spray paint, the light fixtures. I went with a two tone, black satin spray paint and metallic gold spray paint.
Before
I used satin Canyon Black Rust-Oleum Spray Paint and Metallic Gold to give both a new look.
The Walls
I painted the vanity wall with functional grey and the other three walls Even Better Beige in the last bathroom refresh.
To freshen up the walls I painted all the walls with Heritage Grey by Valspar in eggshell.
By painting the trim, crown molding and doors the same color but in a satin finish, makes the room look taller and larger.
The Mirror
Let’s talk about the mirror. This mirror (it is no longer available) I found in Kirkland’s, I love the details and size of the mirror for the vanity.
I did the same process as the vanity. Chalk painted and waxed the frame. Instead of hanging it up and down, I placed it long ways.
The Flooring Tiles
This brings us to the flooring, we created a border with small various brown tiles outlining the perimeter of the floor. In the center we placed 4 larger detailed tiles.
Using Valspar Porch & Patio paint in weathered oak I had left over from when I painted the concrete on our back porch. For the border and the center diamond with the paint. I taped off a diamond shape design and painted the border with Cracked Pepper. Painting the area with two coats of Polyurethan. I also painted and sealed the grout lines as well.
What I spray painted in decorations. I spray painted with metallic gold, the shower curtain rod and rings and shower caddy.
Two hooks I once had in the foyer, I am using them as towel hooks.
Do you see the bath board and how I styled it? I shared the tutorial on a previous blog post. HERE.
The shelves I chalk painted and waxed them as well. Styled them a little differently.
A little change to the toilet tank, I changed out the tank handle to a brass metal handle. Just a little gold accent.
Let’s take a scan of the bathroom as it looks now.
I am very pleased with how warm and cozy the guest bathroom is now. It has the moody feel to it now.
I will let you know how well the floor and faucets holds up.
Thanks for coming over to view my guest bathroom reveal. I hope I inspired you to get out the paint brush and change things you would like to change with paint!
