ANGLED BLANKET LADDER TUTORIAL

Well y’all I am in the master bedroom planning on changing things a bit.  I am adding another ladder to my DIY projects.  I have made one on a prior blog post, you can check that DIY ladder here DIY BLANKET LADDER.  This ladder is a little different, it angles instead of a straight basic ladder.    I love how this ladder adds a modern boho feel to our room.  It’s actually a great piece to have in any styled home.

Let’s get to the tutorial!

For the first couple steps I was so in the work process I forgot to stop and take photos. 🙁

Supplies:

  • two 2″ x 4″ x 6′ board
  • one 1″ x 3″ x 6′ board
  • wood screws long enough for the project
  • circular saw
  • drill and drill bits
  • screw driver bit for the drill
  • minwax finishing wax

First Step

I am using boards I had in the shed.  I cut the 8′ boards down to 6′ in length.  To sit nicely on the wall and floor I angled the bottom and I tapered the back of the top on both boards.

Next I took a 1″ x 6″ x 8′ board, measured and marked the center of the board, making a line, using a circular saw I cut down on the line to create two 1″ x 3″ x 8′.  With one of the halves, I cut my steps.  Because I am making an angle ladder my steps will be different lengths.  Below is the measurements I used for each step.

I measured down each side board 12″ marking a large dot, this will show me where to drill pilot holes for the screws.

To countersink the screws I used a larger drill bit into the pilot hole and drilled just a little past the surface.

I also drilled a pilot hole in the center of each end of the steps.

I sanded all my boards down with 80 grit sand paper and then with 150 grit to smooth all of the boards before building the ladder.

Using wood screws and Mr. Tip’s help, we attached the steps to the side boards.

I was going to stain my ladder but after looking at it I decided I like it just as it is.  I added some Minwax finishing wax and called it done.

This was a very simple project and I love how it turned out!

My boards were scraps out in our shed, you can tell by the saw blade marks.  I don’t mind, I think it gives it some character.

    1. Thanks Christine. I love the ladder in the bedroom, not that we will use the pretty throw much but if we do it’s right there to grab. Glad the tutorial was helpful.
