It all started when I went into Dollar General to buy pampers for Kehlani. Right when I walked in the store, I saw all this beautiful home decor. Did you know Dollar General had a home decor section? Make sure to go check out Dollar General’s home decor section the next time you’re in there!
Let me go back 3 months, before I retired, I asked my boss if I could have his bookcase since he didn’t want it. Where I was going to put it didn’t matter, I just thought it was a sturdy piece and I wanted it. He gave it to me, I brought it home and it sat in the garage for 3 months.
I went back into Dollar General, this time to shop their home decor items. I bought a lot of great items to style on the bookcase he gave me. To save some money I used a coupon on Saturday.
Dollar General Home Decor Finds
Just to let you know, if I feel this is a good place for the bookcase, I will give it a new color. For now, I am testing it out to see if this will be its home.
Signs and frames fill up space and give interest
I found a set of three frames. The saying “every family has a story” caught my eye, love how true the saying is. I also love the design of the two square frames.
I am placing the two square frames up on top of the unit along with a blue vase I found on the 50% off table.
The greenery and basket I had on hand.
Baskets are great for storage and gives a stylish look
A perfect item to use for storage would be this wire basket I found in Dollar General.
I added two throw pillows, I already had to the bottom shelf with the basket, I tucked a throw inside the basket. Not only does the shelf look stylish, it also acts like a storage space.
Adding different textures and elements
I purchased two wooden candleholders, the same size. Love the chunky look of them.
I gave them a whitewash look. Here is what I did to the holders.
- sanded lightly both candleholder
- using a damp cloth cleaning the candleholders
- painted on Waverly white wax chalk paint, spreading with a chip brush until you get the amount of coverage you want
- buff the candleholders after the wax dried
I placed the wording sign to the top shelf along with the candleholders.
Purchasing two photo frames to showcase favorite photos, I also found a wooden dough bowl to style with the frames.
I styled the frames and dough bowl with a wooden white orb, BOXWOOD WREATH and my DIY WOODEN LINK CHAIN.
Play with height
The two vases I found in Dollar General has the same color theme and will give the shelf a variation in sizes.
I found the plant on the 50% off table and the clock I thought would add interest.
I placed the clock on a large DECORATIVE BOX, keeping balance to the shelf by distributing height.
Like I said in the beginning, make sure you go in your Dollar General and check out their home decor section! I would love to hear about what you find in your Dollar General store.
