Hello friends!

Have you ever had something that you didn’t really know what to do with it, but you just didn’t want to throw it away?  The DIYer that I am, I keep everything.  I was up in our attic last weekend straightening things up when I came to the hutch cabinet doors I kept.  When I saw them a light bulb came on.  I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.

Here are the two doors I removed off my old hutch.

I am so excited to share my revamp project with you.  I thought the cabinet doors would make a really cute wall display in my foyer.  Since I am doing a budget friendly makeover in this room it would be perfect!  No cost just time and some paint.

Let’s get started!

First thing I did was remove the glass panels.  I just turned the little arm support clips and removed the glass.

           

Took the hardware off of the frames.

Cleaned the frame.

I am going to spray paint the grids of the frame a dark bronze color.  I taped around the frame with painter’s tape to protect the frame from the over-spray.

I am using bronze Rust-oleum paint.  I had this left over from spray painting the back patio furniture.

I wanted the handles the same color.

Once that dried I removed the tape and sanded the frame lightly with a 220 sand block.  I did not sand the grids just the frame.  Wiped all the dust off the frame.

I am using Waverly cashew and brown chalk paint.  I mixed the two together.

I painted the frame with the paint and let dry.

I painted 2 coats of the paint.

After the paint dried I applied Martha Stewart Living bronze metallic paint with a clean cloth wiping it all over the frame.

How I apply the metallic paint.

• I take a clean cloth and dip that into the paint
• Rubbed it on the frame
• letting that sit on the frame for a couple of minutes
• buffing it over with a cloth

I let that dry.

I took Ink (black) chalk paint and dry brush the frame.  I swiped the brush over small parts of the frame.  I did not have a pattern just applied the paint where I wanted it to look worn.

After the black paint dried, I apply one more coat of the bronze metallic paint.

I let that dry.

I seal the frame with Minwax paste finishing wax.

Here is how I use Minwax Paste finishing wax

• Apply a thin coat of Minwax Paste Finishing Wax with a clean cloth.  I use a wax sponge and apply a thin coat evenly on my frame.
• Allow the wax to dry for about 10-15 minutes.
• Polish with a soft cloth.

I place the painted handles back on the frames.

Doesn’t this look awesome?  I like the look of the darker window grids.  Just gives it a rustic look.

I am so happy with how they turned out and will look awesome in our entryway.

This painting technique gives it an old barn wood look. I will be adding my glass back into the frames. I wanted to give them a couple days of drying first.
