Hey there! So y’all know that I am slowly adding blue to our home. The reason is…for the last couple of springs when we bring our cushions out on the porch for the summer my heart smiles. Not just because the warmer weather, it’s about the color palette. I want the same feelings when I am inside our home. For my new friends, I linked the porch so you can take the BACK PORCH TOUR.
You know I love decorating our home with the seasons, that’s why I keep my home mostly in neutrals. My walls are painted with Pure Earth by Behr (PPU7-5). I recently painted our Master Bedroom with Sherwood Williams; Perfect Greige (SW 6073).

Today, I am sharing 4 tips on how to make your home flow room to room. Maybe it will help you like as it has helped me.
HOW TO KEEP A NICE FLOW TO YOUR HOME
1. Pick a neutral color – with paint
A simple way to carry the flow in your home would be using the same paint color for your walls. Another way to help with the flow, keep the trim and wood work painted one color as well.
2. Choose your main color
Picking the main color you want to add to your home is a personal choice. There is no “right” palette. Don’t pick a color because Sarah’s home looks pretty. Choose the color you love, not what someone else picked.
The main shade of blue is the main color for my home. I am using the color I painted our front door. The paint color I used is called Wind Chime by Kilz Tribute. You can go to FRONT DOOR MAKEOVER to read about the door makeover.
3. Pick one or two more colors to compliment you main color – a secondary color and a pop of color
You don’t have to use the same accent colors in every room, they can change from room to room or taking the main color and using various shades.
In our family room I am doing an accent color of green with pops of dark orange.
In the Master bedroom I am doing various colors of blue with a pop of gold.
In the kitchen, shades of blue with accents of green.
4. Use the 60-30-10 Rule
I shared this before in my 5 WAYS TO FRESHEN UP YOUR HOME . Another way to create a flow from room to room is the 60/30/10 Rule.
- 60% is your dominant color
- 30% is your secondary color
- 10% for the accent (pop) of color
Once I get all my rooms updated it will be time to decorate for Fall. It is so much fun, isn’t it ?? I hope my little tips help you to create an even flow in your home. But hey….it isn’t a set rule you have to do !! It’s your home, your castle dress it as you please. This is just a little help for those that might be stumped like I was.
