I stumbled upon a cute little craft to add to my mom’s front entryway. Just one bug you will need 3 plastic spoons, paints, hot glue and a black pipe cleaner. As easy as counting 1-2-3!
If you are not following my Facebook page, you might not know I made a wreath and little ladybugs for my mom’s front entryway to her apartment. To get caught up you can view the ladybug wreath I made here. Craft with Me – Ladybug Theme.
Today I am making three little ladybugs to hang by her mail bin. These will be such a cute addition to her front entryway.
This would be a super fun craft to make with the kiddos on their summer break. Here is how easy it is to make a ladybug.
Take 3 plastic spoons.
Paint two of the spoons red, front and back. You do not have to paint the handles.
With the third spoon paint the front and back of the spoon black, again you do not have to paint the handle.
With a fine paint brush paint black dots on the red spoons.
Use a pin and a very small dot of white paint into the black dot. This gives it a whimsical flare to the ladybug.
With a pair of scissors or snips cut the handles off all three spoons.
To attach the spoons together, apply hot glue to one side of the back of the black spoon (the body).
Place one of the red spoons (wings) into the glue making sure the cut ends are at the top, angling the wing out away from the body a bit.
Add glue to the other side of the black spoon.
Add more glue, set the second red spoon (the wing) in place so that it slightly overlaps the first and goes out at the opposite angle.
Apply a glob of hot glue to the cut off part of the spoons to form a head shape. I kept moving it all around to keep the glue shaped into a ball.
Keep moving it up, down, over and around until the glue hardens.
Paint the ball of glue black.
Give your black pipe cleaner a little haircut to make them thinner for the antennas.
Curl the ends.
Hot glue them to the back side of the ladybug’s head.
How cute are these ladybugs? You can do the same thing for a bumble bee. Using two clear spoons and paint the third spoon yellow with black stripes. You can use these in so many different ways. For a summer tablescape in a ladybug theme.
Or in your flowerpots out on your porch.
For my mom, I am adding some tacky and sticking them around her mail bin with a pretty bow.
This is such a cute little craft to do to bring a little fun into your day. I hope you enjoy!
