POUR PAINTED GINGER JAR TUTORIAL

Have you ever seen a vase with a marbleized finish and thought about creating something similar?  Well, I haven’t either, 🙂 but today I am going to try it with a ginger jar.

It’s time for another monthly Creative Craft hop, this month we have 9 crafters sharing some awesome crafts.  A special thanks to Sara, Birdz of a Feather for hosting the craft hop.  At the bottom of my page I will share each participant’s link to their craft.

If you are coming over from Rachelle, My Hubbard Home, welcome!

This is going to be a messy project, so make sure you protect your work area.

Here’s the jar I will be pouring the paint on, I had this up in the attic for several years.

I primed the jar first, for some reason the paint cracked on the jar.  It will be covered up in paint so I wasn’t too concerned.

I am using FolkArt craft paint in the colors Midnight Blue and Metallic Pure Gold.

POUR PAINTED GINGER JAR TUTORIAL

~ first step ~

Decide what main color ,  pour the main color in a cup.  I guesstimated the amount.

Pour your secondary color next, same amount as the first color.

Add the main color in the cup, 1/2 the amount this time than the first.

~ second step ~

Pour your paint over the top of your item, slowly, making sure the paint flows evenly over the top of your item.

To help the paint flow down, tilt your jar in all different directions.

Place it on something to raise it off the surface to let the paint run down freely.

Apply more paint if you feel there’s not enough to cover your item.

~ third step ~

Keeping the paint moist by spraying with water, this will keep the paint flowing down.

~ fourth step ~

Before the paint dries, take a paint brush and paint the unpainted area with the excess paint.

Let dry completely.

~ last step ~

Seal your item, I am using clear Ultimate High Gloss by Rust-oleum.

I am very happy with the look and most of all, Kristin loves it!  Can’t wait to see how it looks in her new office.
