I am going to work on a side table I painted for Kristin several years ago. She doesn’t want it anymore and was going to toss it out. I decided to bring it home with me! Here is what I did to make this trash into a treasure.
Side Table Revamp
First, I need to strip the existing paint from the surface. I applied a coat of Kwik-strip paint stripper with a paint brush all over the table.
To remove the old paint:
- apply a coat of paint stripper
- scrape the loose paint with a putty knife
- wipe the entire table with mineral spirits
- sand the entire table with 120 grit sandpaper
- wipe the entire table with a clean damp cloth
I took the table apart to paint each piece. I applied one coat of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1•2•3 primer to each piece.
Once the primer was dry, I sanded lightly each piece with a sanding sponge then wiped it down with a damp cloth.
The paint I am using is Cream Batch by Greensheen. It is the same paint I painted on the walls in our home.
I painted three coats, sanding between each coat.
I assembled the table and distressed the edges with the sanding sponge.
The knob before was too small, I switched it and painted it as well.
