TWO SUPER EASY DIY PATRIOTIC CRAFTS

Welcome back to Ten on the 10th where a few of us bloggers share ideas all under $10.00.  The theme this month is July 4th!  Hosting this month is my sweet friend Benita over at Chasing Quaintness.

If you are coming over from Susan over at Homeroad, what did you think of her firework blocks?  How cool!

Last year I shared a lot of July 4th DIY home décor pieces.  If you want to take a look at all the DIYs I made for July 4th you can go over 4th of July.

Today, I am going to share not one craft but two!  Both are very easy to make.  Each are under the allowed amount.  I was thinking they would be fun crafts to do with the kiddos.

Let’s get started!  The first one is a Stars and Stripes clay pot.

Here are the items you will need:

  • 1 clay pot
  • 2 inch painter’s tape for the stars
  • 1 inch painter’s tape for the strips
  • red, white and blue spray paint
  • spray sealer
  • scissors
  • star template

My clay pot has been around our home for awhile as you can tell.  I took the clay pot and spray painted it white.  It’s as good as new now. 🙂

While letting the white spray paint dry I am going to make 8 stars.  I used the painters tape and traced the stars onto the tape.

Cut the stars out and spaced them evenly on the top rim of the white clay pot.  Taped up the bottom with a plastic bag and painters tape to protect the rest from getting spray painted.

Spray with the navy spray paint.  Remove the star shape tape and plastic bag.

NOTE:  Remember to spray paint white first before the navy so the navy doesn’t bleed throw onto the white stars.  I forgot….do what I say not what I do!

To make the stripes for the bottom of the pot I am taking a 4 inch strip of painters tape.  Placing it on something you can peel off easily.  I gradually made the lines go narrower at the bottom.  Cut at the lines and placed under the space of each star.

NOTE:  Use a craft knife instead of scissors to make an even cut.

Taped up the rim and spray paint the bottom of the clay pot with the red spray paint.  Remove the tape.

Spray two coats of clear sealer.  And there you go, you have a great little spirit of America clay pot!

Second craft is a ribbon garden flag.  Here are the items you will need.

  • 1 Dollar Tree flag with a dowel rod and rope
  • assorted red and white ribbon in different widths  I even used lace
  • blue and red pattern material
  • scissors

Take the Dollar Tree wall art and remove the flag from the dowel rod.

Put that to the side and cut your ribbon 24 inches each.

For the material, I cut 1 inch slits for the navy and 2 inch slits for the red on one edge and ripped into strips.

Applying the ribbon to your rod.  Fold your ribbon in half and place the center of the ribbon over the dowel rod.  Tie the ribbon in a knot around the rod.

Keep tying the ribbon, alternating red and white.

Cut all the ribbon evenly.

Take the navy material and add it to the left side tying it in a knot over the red and white ribbon.  Trim it all even with each other half the size of the red and white ribbon

Making sure the ribbon won’t slip off at the ends I added a bead of hot glue around the end of the dowel rod.

That’s it no sewing!  Looks pretty cute, don’t you think?

Don’t they look cute together?  Together they make such a cute 4th of July garden vignette.
