Do you want to see a functional and cute Dollar Tree soap dish?  I’m honestly loving this one and will be making one for Kristin to place on the countertop near the sink in her laundry room.

This was made from two items from Dollar Tree, Jenga blocks and 4 mini wooden cubes.  I used other items I had on hand.  If you are interested in the tutorial on how I made this keep on reading!

DIY FAUX BAMBOO SOAP DISH

Open the box of the game pieces.  Pick out 31 tiles.  I am using the neutral blocks for my soap dish.

Step One:

Take 6 pieces and glue three together to form a long piece.  Do the steps again.  You should have two pieces with 3 tiles glued together.

Step Two:

Grab 16 pieces and glue two pieces together.  You should have 8 two-tile pieces.

Step Three:

Build the base starting with the pieces of the 3 tiles glued together.  Laying them flat on the table.

Glue a two-tile piece to the ends of the three-tile pieces.

Placing them down on the short edge side.

I used a toothpick to clean the excess glue off of the tiles.

Continue to glue the two-tile pieces evenly.

Step Four:

Add feet to the base.  Using 4 wooden mini cubes glue to each corner.

Step Five:

Frame the top of your base.  After the glue has dried, turn the base over.

To frame the two ends, take one tile and glue it down.

Measure the opening, cut a piece to size.  Sand the rough edges and glue down.

Do the same to the other end.

Step Six:

Trimming out your soap dish.

To each side of the dish glue tiles to the unfinished ends.

Do the same to the other side.

Step Seven:

Fill in all the cracks with wood filler.  Since I am staining my soap dish, I used stainable filler.

Once dry, sand the entire piece with 120 grit sandpaper.

With a damp cloth, wipe away any dust from sanding.

Last Step:

Stain or paint your soap dish.  I am using Minwax Hickory.  Applied two coats, sanding between coats.  Let dry sanded the entire piece again, wipe away dust from sanding.  Apply two coats of Poly, sanding between coats as well.

Let dry for several hours and then style it as you like.

This wasn’t a quick craft, but in the long run it was super fun to make, I love how it turned out.  I hope I gave you some ideas to create something out of those Jenga tiles in Dollar Tree.  I have made a few items from them.  If you want to check those out you can view here DOLLAR TREE WOODEN LINK CHAIN – DOLLAR TREE MIRROR WITH JENGA BLOCKS – DIY DOLLAR TREE TRAY.
