DOLLAR TREE CHALKBOARD MAKEOVER

Today, I am sharing a little sign I made for our son’s classroom, you might not need a type of sign I am sharing, but you can create the sign you want by following my tutorial down below.  Since the theme for the $10 on the 10th is “Back to School” I made my sign to match the theme.

Before I get to the tutorial, I want to thank Tammy Patina and Paint for hosting the $10 on the 10th blog hop each month.  This month, we have 4 bloggers sharing “Back to School” items under $10.  At the bottom of my page I will have the links to my friend’s back to school inspiration.

Dollar Tree Chalkboard Tutorial

I grabbed one of the Dollar Tree chalkboard sign, not knowing what I would do with it, however, I knew it would be an item I could do something cute with.

I removed all the white designs from the board by using my Cricut tool, scraping off all the paint.

Once I had all the paint scraped off I used a damp Mr. Clean sponge and cleaned the residue off of the board.

I removed the twine from the board.

The design was still noticeable, so I painted the entire board with black chalkboard paint.

I searched a Math saying on google search to apply on my chalkboard.  Since our son, Todd is a Math teacher I found the cutest saying for the board.  “Mistakes allow thinking to happen”.

Now, I could of used my Cricut, but since we are working with a budget of $10 I decided to do the old school carbon copy method to trace and paint the saying on my board.  You could use lettering, stencils or even use your Cricut to create your wording.

Traced the letter onto the board and painted the lettering with craft paints.

I applied one coat of sealer to the sign.

Instead of adding the twine back onto the chalkboard, I added some pretty ribbon.

That’s it, giving the chalkboard a complete new look….Easy-peasy!!
