Hey y’all!
Today I am going to show you my secret on how I painted my Fall canvas above my mantel. Painting a canvas is so easy and can be a lot of fun. You don’t have to be an artist, if you like to color here is a DIY for you! 🙂
I will shared my Fall canvas with you in my Fall home tour. If you missed that tour you can go check that out {{HERE}}.
ONE: Canvas
Purchasing a canvas to the size you need. I took an old canvas and spray painted it white. You can tell the texture from the old painting, but it won’t matter once I start painting.
TWO: Find, cut & outline
I went to my go to place and typed in the search bar: pumpkin coloring page, I printed out the ones I wanted. Since I couldn’t print out a larger pumpkin, I took a place mat pumpkin from Dollar Tree and used that.
I cut all the pictures out and placed on the canvas the way I wanted.
Once I got the pumpkins the way I wanted I started tracing around each picture with a pencil.
After I outlined the pictures I mimicked the inner patterns.
THREE: Paint
Now it is time to paint each pumpkin. I went from larger to smaller.
How I highlight and shade my items: I use darker color to shade and lighter color to highlight. I added the darker/lighter color to an area then with a clean dry brush kept sweeping the color until I got it the shade I wanted.
Not sure if that’s how to do it properly but it works for me. 🙂
Free handed the wording “Fall is calling”. I don’t have the cutest handwriting! 🙁
After I painted the words I took all the colors and started smearing it in the background. This helped to hide the texture of the old painting.
That’s it! 1-2-3……it’s really as easy as coloring in a book. If you can trace and paint in the lines you can create a pretty canvas! You don’t have to be an artist.
