A SIMPLE WOODEN SCARECROW

Hey there!  Welcome to Decorate and More with Tip!  Today’s the $10 on the 10th Blog Hop, this month’s theme will be Harvest!    I am joining 6 talented bloggers to share some inspiration for under $10.  At the bottom of my page I will have all of the participants links for you!

The craft I am sharing with you today is truly the simplest craft I have done this season.  I hope you find it something you would like to make.  Below is my tutorial on how I made….

I had everything on hand so it didn’t cost me anything to make.  Take a look in your garage, shed or wood scraps to see if you have a piece of 1″ x 4″ laying around.  Here is what I used for my scarecrow.

  • 10 inch piece of 1″ x 4″
  • piece of burlap fabric
  • twine
  • raffia
  • orange burlap ribbon
  • craft paint; caramel, orange, black and white
  • hot glue

To start it off I painted my 1″ x 4″ with classic caramel craft paint, painting all 4 sides.  It took 3 good coats I let dry in between coats.

Taking a pencil I drew two eyes, a nose and mouth to the board.

Using white, orange and black paint to color his eyes, nose and mouth.

I added a bead of hot glue to the top of the board and added some raffia to the glue to form some hair. Trim to the length you want.

I cut two pieces of burlap gluing them together at the side, this will made a tube shape.  Turn the piece inside out once the glue has time to cool.

Slip the burlap glued piece onto the top of the face, half on and half off.

To form the brim of his hat, I cut a slit on one side of the burlap and frayed both edges.

To the side of the hat where I made the slit I added a dab of hot glue to the burlap and folded up the cut side onto the glue.

Decorating his hat.

  • Glue a piece of ribbon around the hat near the bottom edge
  • Tie a piece of twine to the top part of the burlap

Oh my word, isn’t he just the cutest thing ever?

I styled him with my two 4 x 4 wooden pumpkins in the foyer.  To check the tutorial on how I made my 4 x 4 pumpkins click here 4 x 4 WOODEN PUMPKINS
