Hello everyone!  Update on the back porch before we get started on the blog today….Screening has begun!!!! YAY!  Here is a sneak peak.

Back to the blog for today.  I have seen so many photos of people’s beautifully decorated homes with magnolia wreaths.  I was looking to buy one for my home.  I never realized how expensive they were to buy, so I decided I would make one.  In case you want to make one for your home I am sharing with you how I made mine.

Sometimes it doesn’t make sense to make it and spend the time if it’s not going to save you money.  For this wreath it saved me LOTS!  I was shopping and found a beautiful magnolia wreath at Hobby Lobby.  Loved it, but look what they wanted for it?

Even at 50% off that’s crazy!  So I got this bright idea to just make one.  I went over to the floral department and picked up 4 magnolia spray stems at $4.99 each (50% off)  Walked out of there spending $10.86 (tax included).  I went home and started making my own magnolia leaf wreath.

Let’s get started!

Things that I used.

• 1 grapevine wreath (you could use a wire wreath mold and wrap it with a burlap ribbon).
• 4 magnolia leaf spray stems (the ones I purchased were from Hobby Lobby with 3 bundles on the stem.
• Floral wire
• wire cutters

First thing I did was take my stems and cut the bundles off the stems.  I purchased 4 of the stems which gave me 12 pieces.

I am using a grapevine wreath.  If you want to use a wire wreath form that would work too.  I would suggest to wrap a burlap ribbon or something else around it to make it look more appealing.  You wouldn’t have to.

For the wire wreath, you can purchase this from the Dollar Tree along with a roll of burlap ribbon.  Secure one end of the ribbon to the form and start wrapping the form with the ribbon.

Once you have your form wrapped start placing the leave bunches on the form and secure each piece with the floral wire.  Going in one direction.

For the grapevine wreath.  Take your wreath and place it in front of you.

I took one stem and place the end piece into the grapevine.

I placed 4 stems to start it out, then I filled in the spaces going in the same directions.

After I stuck all the leaf pick parts into the grapevine wreath I secured the stems with the floral wire.  I took a piece of wire wrapped it around the wreath and stem where I felt it was a little too free.

It’s as easy as that! I am going to hang my wreath on my catheral mirror.

With this particular leaf stem the magnolia leaves have two backside shades, a brown and a light green.

For spring, I turned some of the leaves backwards to show the light green side.  Like this.

 

For summer I would keep all the leaves facing front side.  Like this.

 

For fall to winter I would turn some of the leaves backwards to show the brown side.  Like this.

Here are some places in my home that I could put my wreath.  Still moving it around to see where I want to keep it.  What do you think?
