HOW TO PAINT A METAL ART PIECE

Today, I am working on the metal wall art which hangs on the back porch wall for the last few years.

I found the piece in Kohl’s a couple years ago, however as the color of the back porch changes so does this piece.

For a quick second I was unsure if I was going to place the metal piece back up on the wall. With the designs in the outdoor rug, I felt with a color change it could possibly work.

I found similar metal art for those interested.

First Step – Paint the background color.

I used a gloss dark gray and a flat metallic antique nickel to achieve the background color.

Using the flat dark grey first, giving it one good coat.

To give a sheen to the piece I gave a light coat with the antique nickel.

Second Step – Give it character

Keeping with the color palette of the back porch decorations I am using Apple Barrel craft paint in the colors pavement, sky blue and antique parchment.

Each medallion I highlighted the design with paint.

Third Step – Wipe off for a distressing effect

When the paint dries take a damp cloth and rub off the amount of paint you want.

Last Step – Seal your art work

To seal all my work I used Rust-oleum semi gloss clear sealer, giving it one coat.

Once your piece has dried, place it up on the wall and enjoy!

It’s a simple way to create a custom piece for your home.
