REVAMPING OLD DECOR PUMPKINS

Good morning my friends!  Hope this finds you all doing great.  I spent all day, when I say all day, I mean all day painting and doing a DIY on fall decor.  I even ended up doing it late last night just so I could have it done to share it with you today.  Am I not just the sweetest?

When do you think people should start to decorate for fall?  Fall officially starts September 22, would that be the best time?  Since I have all my painting done I am starting early.  Christmas, I start earlier than most people, so I guess fall shouldn’t be any different for me.  Do y’all decorate for fall?  Do you go all out decorating your main rooms in your house? For fall, I just stick to the kitchen. Unless I have our dinner club during the fall season, I would decorate my dining room table.  Maybe next year I will add a new fall centerpiece to my dining room table.

I brought down my Halloween tub from the attic,  I have color appropriate tubs for every holiday that I store my decor in up in our attic. My Halloween tub is orange with a black top. Do you end up like I use to do and had to search in your containers to find out what was what?  Before, I  had to open and go through to find out what was in my tubs until I color coded them. Works perfectly for me.

I took all my fall decor out of the tub, I separated the ones I don’t want and the ones that I did.  It doesn’t look like much until you have to prep, paint and then figure out how you want it all to go.

Here is all the items I wanted to keep.  I ended up putting the little yellow pumpkin in the “do not want pile” after I had everything painted.

Here is what I purchased this year to add to my collection.

First what I did was take all the parts off I could before washing and painting. A couple I couldn’t remove the leaves so I bagged them and taped them all off so the paint wouldn’t get on them.
Took them outside to my area set up and sprayed a light coat of white paint.  The paint that I used for this project was a couple brands.  White was Rust-Oleum, metallic and glitter mist was by Krylon.  You don’t have to use those brand names just make sure you get spray paint that is for all surfaces.

I sprayed thin coats until I got to where I thought it was covered enough.  I did a total of three coats.
I wanted two of the pumpkins two tone.  White on top and copper on the stem and bottom part.  I covered the white area that I didn’t want the copper color on and taped it real well.  Sprayed the copper paint to the area.  I don’t know what happened to my pictures of that process, sorry I can’t show you that part.  Kicking myself right in the head!

I spray painted the leaves of the items copper.  I dry brushed some white on some of the leaves for a different look than just plain painted leaves.

On two of the pumpkins I wanted to bling them out with some diamond ribbon that I purchased at Dollar Tree.  Used my hot glue and added it on to each line of the pumpkin.  Painted the stem silver with craft paint.

On another two I spray painted them totally copper and added the glitter mist as a top coat.

On the last two pieces I left them white and the leaves the black as I bought it.

I love how my table setting is.  I found 4 wicker placemats and white washed them.  They turned out so cute.  I found 4 Mug Pie monogram salad plates and placed my kirkland dark bamboo chargers under them.  I took my linen napkins and placed them under the plates.

Almost forgot…….my DIY.  So Sorry y’all!  Here it is

The supplies I used are.

  1. two styrofoam pumpkins at the Dollar Tree
  2. white spray paint
  3. jute twine
  4. several different ribbons
  5. twig from our yard that is a good round size for the stem
  6. two sweater boot cuffs (I was going to put mine in the yard sale but pulled them out)
  7. hot glue gun and glue
  8. scissors
  9. needle and thread
  10. pruners

First, I will remove the stem from the pumpkins.  They were placed in by picks so you can pull them out easily.  I spray painted the bottoms first after the paint dried I turned them upright and sprayed the whole pumpkin.  I only spray painted one coat.  The orange was noticeable if not spray painted through the sweater boot cuff.

Once the paint was dried, I slipped the boot cup over the pumpkins.  My boot cut had lace around the edge with two buttons.  I am glad it did because it gave it some detail.

I took needle and thread and stitched around the top edge and gathered it closed.  Tied a knot to keep it in place.  At the bottom I left it alone.  It seemed to be staying in place on its own.

Next, I cut a twig from my yard to the size I wanted the stems to be.  I sealed the twigs after I cut them.  Something about bringing in nature scares me on the critters that might be there.  So, I seal the piece of mine.  I place the twig on the top of the pumpkin and secure it with hot glue.

Next I took the jute twine that I bought at the Dollar Tree.  I tied it around the stem then hot glued down each side where there was a space in the design of the boot cuff.
After I glued the twine up and down each pattern I placed ribbon and on one I added a small doily with the ribbon.
