HOW I UPSCALE MY DOLLAR TREE HYDRANGEA!

Happy Friday friends!

I had a different blog ready, but I had some sweet friends asked me questions regarding my floral arrangement on my July 4th tablescape.  Since I had several ask me about the flowers I thought I would give you my little secret on how I up scaled my Dollar Tree hydrangea.

The flowers were from the Dollar Tree and no, I didn’t buy them like this.  When I think hydrangea I think a large snow ball type of flower.  The hydrangea bundle at Dollar Tree are a pretty color, but are way too small to look like a true hydrangea flower.  I am going to share with you how you can make your hydrangea look fuller and more life-like.

Let’s get started!

This is what I used to make my floral arrangement on my 4th of July table.

  • 6 bundles of the Dollar Tree hydrangea bundles
  • ivy vine
  • floral tape
  • wire snips
  • floral foam
  • container

The Dollar Tree hydrangea flower

The one I purchased at Hobby Lobby.

I took one bundle of the hydrangea and cut each flower off the bundle.  There should be 5 stems per bundle.

Once you have all 5 cut, arrange them all together.  Grab your floral tape.

Wrap the tape around all the stems leaving about 3 inches from the bottom uncovered.

Once you get it wrapped tightly, spread out the uncovered ends.

Cut all but one.  Do not throw the cut off stems away keep them to the side.  We will be using these a little later.

Leaving one to use as the pick.

This is what mine looks like

Again my Hobby Lobby hydrangea.

I made 6 flowers to make my arrangement.  Each flower cost me $1.00….I know,  right?!

For the container I am using one of my hutch drawers.

Painted it white with chalk paint.  After it dried I gave it a good distressing.

I took some floral foam from the Dollar Tree and placed it on the bottom of the drawer.

Taking the 6 hydrangeas and adding them to the drawer.

The only thing that this flower stem doesn’t have are the leaves.  It comes with smaller leaves but not as large as they should be.  I grabbed the vine garland at Dollar Tree and made some leaf picks to apply to the arrangement.

Remember the cut off stems we put to the side.  We will use them now.

I will be making two different type of leaf pick.  One will be a single leaf.  You can snip these off and tape them onto a cut off stem.  The other one I popped the leaves off and added it on a stem and taped it to keep it secured.

Place the leaf pick where you think it would look good.

That’s how I made my Dollar Tree hydrangeas look fuller and more upscale.   Hydrangeas are probably my favorite summer flower.   Tell me honestly…do they look like a Dollar Tree flower?

Here is another look.
