DIY EMBROIDERY HOOP ORB

Hello!

Happy Friday!  Are you ready for the weekend?  Hope you have a fun filled weekend planned!

Today I am sharing another easy and inexpensive DIY.  For my friends that don’t want the hassle of making one, you can go HERE for a similar one.

Here are the items you would need:  You might want to grab a note pad and pencil!

  • 2 embroidery hoops the same size – I am using 6″ hoops and I purchased mine from Wal-mart for $1.27 each – HERE is the one I purchased.
  • 6 metal thumb tacks – I had silver, which I paint a dark gray.
  • sponge brush or clean cloth
  • Stain or paint color of your choice – I am using a gray stain and Cashew chalk paint

That’s it…I was just joking about the note pad.

Let’s get started!

First, I separate the two sets of embroidery hoops.

I stain the hoops.

I dry brushed some Cashew chalk paint lightly over the stained hoops.

I am going to start building the orb now that the hoops are completely dry!

I separated the hoops, inside hoops from the outer hoops.

I took the inside embroidery hoops and placed one hoop inside the other to make an “X”.

I took 2 thumbtacks and push into the intersections of the hoops.  It might take a little more effort to push the tack through, but it will go in.  Just push it in until it is all the way down.  It might not go all the way throw depending on the thickness of your wooden hoops.  That’s alright it is mostly for looks anyway.

This is how it should look.  Doesn’t it look nice?

I also put tacks on the inside of the loop too.

I now grabbed the orbs that have the part with the fastener.

Loosen the hoops as far as they will go without remove the screw.

Doing one at a time, take the two inner hoops and place it in the center of the outer loop.

When you get it to the position you want tighten the screw.

Taking the last outer loop doing the same as the above step.

Moving it around until you have your orb the way you want it to look.   I made sure that all spaces were evenly spaced.  Tighten the last fastener tight.

Place the last two tacks on the inner part where the fasteners are.

So there you have it!

Don’t you think this is such a cute accent piece?  Under $3.00 you can’t beat it!

If you make one or buy one, how will you style your orb?  So many possibilities!

I made another larger orb using 10″ embroidery hoops.  I would suggest using 3 hoops instead of two.  To give it more dimension.

I hope you enjoyed my DIY and gave you a little inspiration to make one or to check out the one you can buy at Hobby Lobby!  It is actually 50% off as we speak!  Either way this decor piece makes a great accent to anyone’s home.
