ENTRY WAY MAKEOVER

Hello friends!

I am so excited to share our entry way makeover with you today!  Nothing was wrong with our entry way before I just wanted to brighten it up and give it a little more rustic feel.  That being said, you know me by now, I’m always looking for ways to revamp our home without spending a lot of money.   I don’t have to tell you how much it cost to decorate a room from scratch.  I know I have said this a thousand time, shop your home before going out and buying.  That’s what I did with this room.

Let’s get started!

Just a reminder of what our entry way looked like before.  If you missed the tour of our entry way you can go HERE to take the tour.

First thing I wanted to do is make the room brighter.  I decided to do the shiplap technique on the foyer wall.  Instead of doing the shiplap technique horizontally like I did on the fireplace wall above the mantel, I did a vertical pattern.  To see how I achieved the shiplap you can go HERE to check that out.

If you don’t like to paint or do real shiplap you can buy the peel and stick shiplap wallpaper to give the same look.  HERE is the peel and stick sold at Target if you are interested.

Here is the freshly painted shiplap walls.

I did spend two days on painting the walls and trim.  Had the paint and tape on hand.  Which is sweet because I didn’t have to spend a dime to get this bright new look.

Now that I have the room brighter I will focus on the room’s decor pieces.

I like the table in the foyer, but wanted a larger table for the wall.

I switched out the table with one in our guest bedroom.  This table I purchased from Kirkland’s several years ago.  Sorry about doing Christmas so early, ha!  I can’t believe this is the only picture I have of the table.  I purchased the table from Kirkland’s.  HERE is a table similar to this one.

I placed that along the wall.

Moving furniture around in your home will give you the effect of something fresh and new.  Even though it has been with you for awhile.

Now.. for the focal point of the room.  Remember my DIY cabinet door makeover?  If you missed that DIY you can go HERE to check out how I revamp the cabinet doors.

I placed the doors with the hinges together instead of how they normally would be.

If you like the look of my window, shop thrift stores or yard sales for old windows.  They are typically inexpensive.  Even with straight square windows you can get the similar look.  I love how the table and window blends in so well with each other.

Placing the doors the way I did I feel that it needs something to fill in the curvature center to make it look fuller.  I grabbed my iron scroll in the same bedroom where I stole the table from.

I turned it upside down and placed it above the cabinet doors.

I don’t know about you, but I think they were made for each other!   I am liking the focal point don’t you?

I purchased the metal scroll years ago from Kirkland’s.  HERE is one similar.

So far I am doing great with the budget.  Not bad….right?  So far…$0.00 spent.

I would love to have a lamp on the table, but there are no outlets on this wall.  My daughter had two candle holders she had in our yard sale that did not sell.  They were up in our attic so I brought them down and cleaned them up, I added two pink candles and placed them on the table.  I think they fit perfectly on the table.

She purchased them from Kirkland’s back in 2009.  Kirkland’s do not have these in stock but HERE are some that would look just as nice.

On the other side of the table I added back to the room my faux tall grass plant.  I placed one of my blush glass vases and I added some white flowers to the vase.  I added my wood beaded garland around the neck of the vase and sat the vase on two books that I remove the covers from.  If you are interested in the blush vase HERE they are online at Kirkland’s.  HERE is a similar faux grass plant HERE.

If you are interested in where I got my wood garland beads you can go HERE to check out my friend Lindy’s site.  She does an awesome job with wood beads.  She is super nice and will make whatever type you want.

Now the table seems balanced.  Remember my blog where I shared how to decorating with the Rules of 3?  If you miss that you can go HERE.  I use that rule all the time!

I want to add a little character to the center of the table.  I placed my DIY double tier tray.  If you missed how I made my tray you can go HERE.  I also shared tips on how to decorate a tier tray.  You can check that out HERE.  In that blog I shared how I styled this tier tray.

Adding some blush I added a pink rose inside the jar and in the back of the tray I placed a pink jar candle.

I love my little double tier tray.  Works perfect on the table.  If you want a tray like this but do not want to make one HERE is the inspirational tray I wanted my DIY to look like.

The amount I spent for the decor pieces on the table are:

  • $3.00 to make the tray
  • $1.00 for the glass roped jug from the Dollar Tree.  I stuck a pink rose inside for a pop of color
  • the welcome sign from Hobby Lobby $9.99 50% off  $5.00
  • the little vase with the beads also at Hobby Lobby  for $3.99 50% off $2.00
  • the blush vase was $5.00 from Kirkland’s
  • the beaded garland was $25.00

Total amount spent $41.00.

To keep the eyes flowing I want to add some decor to the floor.

You have seen this pillow being bounced around in my home and the basket was on my hearth.

Our Nest pillow HERE        I purchased my basket at TjMaxx.  HERE is one similar.

I placed my little footstool that I found at a thrift store a year ago.  I painted it pink and distressed it.  Placed it next to the basket with a lamb’s ear stem on top.

I love the look so far!

Placing back my coat tree in the corner wall.  I purchased the coat rack from Kirkland’s several years ago.  HERE is one that is similar.

I am on the hunt for a blush and beige area rug, but for now I added back my beige rug.

To finish off the foyer makeover we changed the light fixture.

This was the fixture we had.

And here is the one I purchased at Lowe’s for $92.98.  If you like this light fixture you can find it HERE.

One more look at the before entry way.

And now!

Another view

I diffidently change the entire look and feel of the space without spending a fortune.

After I totaled up my cost….. drum-roll please……just under $150.00 and about 5 days of elbow grease.  Purchasing the light fixture was the culprit.  I really love the look of the light fixture and will match the light fixture that I want to get for our dining room.  Which I will be wanting to change soon.

I know that most of you do not have an attic or closet full of decor pieces to use.  I am hoping that I inspired you to change up a room by shopping your home, don’t be afraid to do DIYs and to freshen up your space by giving it a fresh coat of paint.  Check thrift stores and the clearance section of stores.  You CAN create a space in your home on a budget.

Remember the DIY cotton bloom and lamb’s ear wreath I shared with you on Tuesday?  If you missed that you can see how I made that HERE.  I found it’s home!  What do you think?

Thank you for stopping by.  I hope you enjoyed watching me change up our entry way.
