DIY BURLAP TABLE RUNNER

Hello friends!  Hope you are having a great start to your week.

Today’s post I am sharing with you how to make a burlap table runner.   No sewing required!  YES…so you can do this!  It is super easy to make and doesn’t take that much time.  This could be used at anytime of the year and diffidently would bring nature into your room.  Wouldn’t this table runner look awesome for your Easter tablescape?  Just think, with some faux grass and bunnies?  My mind is on overdrive thinking of all the possibilities!

I purchased my burlap ribbon at Hobby Lobby.  HERE is the one I purchased.  5 yards should be plenty.  I made mine 110 inches long and still had 70 inches left.  And the best part it was 50% off so I got this table runner for $4.99 (plus tax).  It took about 30 minutes of my time to make, at the most.

Let’s get started!

What you will need:

  • burlap ribbon
  • scissors
  • tape measure

That’s it!

I measured my table top and wanted a 10 inch drop.  I wanted a 5 inch fringe and a 5 inch drop from the table’s edge.

Example:  My table top is 90 inches long and I measured 10 inches for both sides.  90 + 10 + 10 = 110.

You can make this to fit your table by measuring your table top and adding how long you want your drop to be on each side.  This probably was the hardest part of the DIY.

The starting end of the burlap had a binding so I cut to make a raw edge.  NOTE: You need both ends to have a raw edge to make the fringe.

The stitches are very easy to take apart.  Try not to take too many at once or you can snag it.  You want to gentle move a single stitch at a time by itself until you come to the end of the runner.

After you have the fringe part 5 inches (or how ever long you want the fringe to be) you need to make knots to secure the burlap from unraveling.

I divided 6 threads; 3 to in one grouping and 3 in another.

Tie those 6 together in a knot.

You will make knots with every 6 strands until you come to the end.

The fringe was a little crazy for me so I took my iron to it just to tame it a bit.

Wasn’t that so easy!  This can be used on your table top, foyer table or anything you want.  You can do so much with this and the best part is…. it only cost you less than $6.

I want to see how you made yours!  Let me know what you think about this DIY table runner and how you would use in your home.
