DIY GUMBALL MACHINE

Hello Friends!  Thank you all so much on your kind words on my fireplace mantel yesterday.  You are all so sweet!

Today’s DIY is so cute I am so excited on sharing with you how I made my gumball machine .  I think this would be so cute on my kitchen counter.  I stumbled upon Beauty and The Stamper’s video.  She was making this gumball machine and I just had to try it out myself.  I have her video pinned on my Pinterest board under Christmas craft.

Let’s get started.

Here is the supplies you will need:

  • Pilsner Glass – Dollar Tree
  • round large votive bowl – Dollar Tree
  • lid from a candy dish – Dollar Tree
  • Gum balls – Dollar Tree
  • Red spray paint – had on hand (you can use any color)
  • hot glue and glue sticks or E6000 or Fix All (Dollar Tree)
  • Silver duck tape
  • wing nut
  • thumb tack
  • scissors
  • ribbon
  • black sharpie

I took the glass and candy dish lid removed the stickers and cleaned them really good.

I used red spray paint.  I had this on hand already.  You can use any color you want.

Spray paint the glass and lid.  Let dry

Now that the parts are painted lets get started building our gumball machine.

Turn you glass upside down.  Take the duck tape and cut a piece 1-1/2″ x  1-1/2 in size.

Place it on the glass lower middle.  This will serve as the chute.

Above the duct tape add a dab of hot glue and place the wing nut to the glass.  This will serve for the dispensing wheel.

To hide the center of the wing nut.  Take the ball thumb tack and cut the pin off with wire cutters.

Place hot glue inside the wing nut opening and place the thumb tack piece to the opening.  (you can use a flat head thumb tack just paint it the color of your glass.

Take your votive bowl and remove the sticker and clean it good.

Take your glue and apply it to the top of the glass.

You can use E6000 or Fix All (Dollar Tree glue) or hot glue.  I used the Fix All.

Place it on the glass where you applied the glue.

Take your ribbon and cut a strip off long enough to wrap around the bottom of the glass.  Hot glue it on the bottom of the glass.

I took the same ribbon and cut it in half.  Wrap it around the top part of the glass under the votive bowl and hot glue it on.

Now take a black sharpie and outline the duct tape square.

Take the painted candy lid and add some hot glue to the inside of the lid.  This will give the lid a better fit to the votive bowl.

***NOTE: DO NOT place the lid on the votive until the glue is dry.  Placing the glue around the lid is to make a sealer only.

Add your gumballs.

Place the lid on your bowl.

Here is my gumball machine.  How cute is this?

Here is how I decorated it on my kitchen counter.

The total for this little gem to make is; glass $1.00 – votive bowl $1.00 – candy dish $1.00 (the bottom dish I will save for another project).  Bought 3 bags of gumballs $3.00 =  Total $6.00

Had on hand; the paint – duck tape – wing nut – thumb tack – ribbon – hot glue – fix all.

I hope you enjoyed watching me make my gumball machine.  If you make one for yourself please send me a picture of it.  I would love to see how yours turned out.

Stay Strong and Stay Blessed!
