DIY – HEART AND BURLAP BOOK COVERS

Good Morning friends!  Did you have a good weekend?  I had a nice and quiet weekend.  Couldn’t tell you what I did, but what I didn’t do felt pretty good.  Thank you for coming over to visit me today!

Today’s craft is a pretty easy one.  Anyone can do this…YES, anyone!

I love using books as a piece in my decor.  I have added them to many places in my home to fill in the gaps.  Some times I pull the covers off and tie twine around them or covering the books with burlap.  This adds texture and warmth to your decor.

It is as easy as wrapping a present.  We should be pros at that with all the gift wrapping we had to do last month! Instead of wrapping paper I am using burlap to one book and I am adding embellishments to another.

Let’s get started!

What you will need:

  • books
  • mod podge
  • sponge brush
  • burlap enough to leave at least 1″ – 1 1/2″ around your book
  • spray paint
  • sticker hearts
  • scissors
  • clamps (cloths pins will do the trick)

Let’s work on the heart book cover first,

I found the sticker hearts at The Dollar Tree.  I didn’t realize they were stickers (yes, I know it states that right on the package, NOW).  So scratch the glue.

I spray painted the binder with spray paint, the color of the book, to hide the title.  Let that dry.

I took 6 of the smaller pink hearts and attached to the binder.  That’s all I did.  You could use other type of stickers, jewels or leave it alone.

Let’s work on the burlap one now.

This one has a little more steps.

Cut your burlap larger than you book. (make sure you have enough extra to fold over the book)  I purchased my burlap from Walmart.  I have seen at Hobby Lobby also.

Take your mod podge and paint the entire cover.

Place back onto the burlap piece.  And press the sides to secure the burlap.

Cut the corners to remove the bulk.

Cut a slit on each side of the binder on top and bottom,

Brush the mod podge around the edge of the cover (the size of the overlap only).  Fold over the excess burlap.  Clamp to hold in place.  I purchased those cute little clamps at The Dollar Tree.   I pulled out my cloths pins since I needed several.  They work just as well.

Do that to both sides.  Paint some mod podge to the inside of the binder and tuck in the excess burlap inside the binder.  I used a letter opener to tuck it in and used a clamp to hold.

Let your book dry.

Once dry, remove the clamps and there you go.

Here are my books.

What do you think?  Would this be something you would like to make for your home?  I love the burlap book and probably will be making more for my everyday decor.
