Over the holiday weekend we went to visit our son, Todd.  I didn’t have time to style our porch for this challenge, actually I was thinking about passing the challenge for this month.  When we arrived at Todd’s home I noticed he still had his Christmas wreath up. 🙁 I asked why? He said he liked a wreath on his door, but didn’t have another one to replace it.  Well that just told me I will be making one over the time of our visit.  I would love to take his porch and style all of it, it’s the perfect porch to use for the Pinterest challenge.  Here is his porch.  It’s got great potential.

I have to remember that it’s not my porch AND he doesn’t want a lot of fuss on the porch.  That being said, I am doing exactly what he wants on his porch.  We will just focus on his front door area. I removed his Christmas wreath. 🙂

First thing I wanted to do is find a theme for his porch.  He is a huge St. Louis Cardinal fan and has a few things already to use in this area.  Now we will go to Hobby Lobby to find items to make a door wreath.

DIY BASEBALL THEMED WREATH TUTORIAL

Items I will be using for the wreath are listed below:

• 18 inch grapevine wreath
• 2 rolls of blue burlap ribbon
• 1 roll of red, white and blue gingham ribbon
• 1 piece of red thin glitter ribbon
• wooden baseball plaque
• baseball items; mini items, bat, helmet and ball
• wooden welcome word
• red, white, blue craft paint
• wood glue
• floral wire

I used a drill to drill holes into the wooden plaque, hat and baseball so I can wire the items to the wreath.

When I went for a wreath I really wanted a wire form wreath to use, but they were all out.  I purchased a grapevine wreath.   In order to get the loop effect I wanted I used floral wire and looped the ribbon to the wreath.

Here are the steps I used to loop the burlap to the wreath.

1. cut a piece of floral wire
2. measure a nice loop in your ribbon
3. thread the wire through the burlap
4. gather the ribbon on the wire
5. wrap the wire around a piece of the grapevine wreath
6. do not cut the ribbon keep on looping the same way

I cut pieces of the gingham ribbon and the red ribbon making a layered bow attaching it onto the wreath.  (I lost the photos of the layered ribbon).

I took the red craft paint and painted the baseball seams.  Let dry.

Taking wood glue and the welcome sign and attaching it to the center of the baseball.

I decorated the wreath with the baseball, bat and helmet.  Taking floral wire attaching the bat to the wreath.  Hiding the wire with the ribbon.

Taking floral wire threading through the drilled holes in the baseball and helmet wiring it onto the wreath as well.

Threading floral wire into the drilled holes of the baseball welcome plaque and attaching it to the center of the wreath.

Now placing it on the front door.

Adding Todd’s St. Louis welcome sign to the brick wall.

Last thing was adding a door mat.

That’s all he wanted to add to his porch.  Now this mamma could of done so much more, but I know this isn’t my porch.  So I stopped.
