I am starting a new project, we are going over in our daughter, Kristin’s kitchen, her kitchen needs an update in the worst way possible.
In her 1983 kitchen, there are a lot of DIYs we can do to give her kitchen an update. We are going to focus on those and hire out the things we can’t.
The photo below is how the kitchen looks today.
Let’s talk about the cabinets, they are all wood, not laminate. Since they are in great condition, we will paint instead of replacing them. However, there are two things she wants to remove from the cabinets before we paint them. The rail moulding and the wooden valance in front of the window.
This is an easy fix; I can remove both myself without any trouble. With my circular saw and a hammer, it will get done.
A couple more projects are adding a backsplash and changing out the counters. The countertops now are in good condition but isn’t her style. We will hire someone to install the new countertops, the backsplash we will do that ourselves.
She sent me all the things that inspires her for the kitchen, I put them all together on a design board to share with you.
I divide all the work we need to do so it doesn’t feel so overwhelming. First job we need to do are the cabinets. Remove the unwanted pieces to start painting the cabinets.
The two photos she loves are below. The lower cabinet color will be Powell Grey and the upper Chantilly Lace both by Benjamin Moore.
This is the first project we will tackle, hopefully, we won’t get into major problems. Like I said earlier in my post, I will share weekly updates on Kristin’s kitchen update.
