Hello!  Welcome to Decorate and More with Tip.  Mr. Tip and myself will be throwing a baby shower for our daughter and son-in-law.  I have a picture of a beautiful classy shower in my mind.  To keep it budget friendly and still beautiful I will be making most of the decorations myself.  What better way to keep it budget friendly, right?   We are not having a large baby shower just family and a few family friends.  We are thinking 5 long tables for our guest to sit and enjoy their meal.  I want to decorate those tables with a pretty centerpiece.  Today I am sharing the first of many shower decorations.  I only have 2 weeks before the shower.  I think I can get all the decorations done by then.

Now if you are thinking I do not need anything for a baby shower.  Stay around you might find it fun to watch me work on the decorations or you can give me some pointers.  What I make doesn’t have to be for a shower, reception or any occasion, you just might find something I did interesting to make.  🙂

First up is the table centerpieces.  We are having 5 guest tables so I will need to make 5 of everything.  I am working on my large piece for the table today.  I am making a candelabra, to buy 5 it would be out of the budget.  Not if I make them myself.  I headed to the Dollar Tree to gather up my items.

Here are the items I am using.

• 2 Dollar Tree glass candle holders
• 1 package of Dollar Tree clear picture easel
• 5 Dollar Tree small square cups (found in the banquet section – package of 12)
• 1 Mari Gras gold necklace
• wire snips
• E6000
• hot glue gun and glue sticks
• spray paint in Metallic gold
• alcohol and paper towel
• sandpaper

The candelabra tutorial…..

Step 1

Take your candle holders and remove the tag.  Use sandpaper gently sand the top of the candle holder.  Take a paper towel and alcohol and clean the sanded area.

Step 2

Apply E6000 to both candle holder’s top.  Apply a touch of hot glue to the E6000 to help hold together until the E6000 dries.

Put the two candle holders together, turning one upside down and placing it on top of the other one.  Let those dry.

Step 3

Remove your picture easels from the package.  We will need the wire snips for this step.  After you removed the easels from the cardboard we will be separating the two pieces by snipping off the  hinges.  This sounds difficult but it really isn’t.  Take the snips and place on one of the hinges, press lightly the hinge will snap off.  Do this to both easels.  Snip off until all parts of the hinges are removed.  You want it smooth.

Still on the easel preparation.  The easel has two little feet on the bottom.  We will be removing the front foot.  Taking your wire snips, place the tip on the little ledge trim of the foot with gentle pressure the front foot will break evenly on it’s own.

Step 4

On this step we will be gluing the 4 easel parts together to form the candle holder.

Taking the other two parts glue to each side forming a 4 way easel.

Clean the glue and webs from the sides with your paper towel with alcohol.

Let that dry.

Step 5

Glue the top and the bottom parts together with E6000 and a little hot glue.

Sit the top inside of the opening of the candle holder we want to see what parts touches each other.  Add E6000 and a little hot glue to the area the two pieces touches.  Place the top in the opening of the candle holder and let dry.

Step 6

Adding a plate for candles to sit on.  Taking the Dollar Tree clear mini plates, applying hot glue to each arm and place the mini plates.

Step 7

Spray paint the candelabra any color you want.  I am spraying mine metallic gold.

 

Step 8 last step

One gold Mari Gras necklaces is enough to decorate one candelabra.   Cut your necklace in 10 bead sections.

Take 4 sections and hot glue to the bottom inner part of the easel arm and to the outer part where we removed the foot.

Add beads the same way to the upper part of the easel to the middle of the mini plate.

I cut the left over beads into single beads and hot glued them around the area where the two candle holders were glued together.  I wanted a little more space between the beads for this look that’s why I cut the beads separately.

What do you think?  I have all 5 done.

I purchased votive candles at Dollar Tree to place on the little mini plates.  I just think this would be such a cute piece to have two of these on a table for Valentine’s Day.  Instead of candles maybe red roses placed on the mini plates and one candle on top.  Or maybe Mother’s Day painting the candelabra white using crystal beads.  Oh all the options are running through my head.

For each DIY candelabra it cost a little over $4.  I will be working on a picture frame on a pedestal next, I am so excited to take you along while I make the shower decorations.
