DIY MINI LADDER

Hey there!  Do you have pretty little tea towels that you want to display and just don’t have anywhere to display them on?  I found a simple little DIY for you !!  But first I want to show off my cute little towel.

My towel is from Lemonade and Cotton, they’re handmade tea towels made from flour sacks.  They come in two different colors, white and natural. I love the saying on the towel; Grateful  ∼  ThankfulBlessed.  If I had to sum up my life in three words it would be those three words.  To find the perfect towel for you check out their website Lemonade and Cotton.  As of right now free shipping, which is always good and I have a discount code offering 20% off of your purchase.  Just use the discount code TERRIE20.  How fun is the savings!  Go check their site out, you won’t be disappointed in the quality and the items you order.

Y’all know I love my little towel holder I have besides my sink, right?

If I would put my pretty towel on the ring it would hide the saying and I want to display my Lemonade and Cotton towel without folds or wrinkles.  In order to achieve the look I decided to make a tea towel ladder and make it to custom fit my towel.  Oh my gosh!  The ladder is so adorable and easy to make.

Here are the items you will need to make one for your home.

  • 36″ – 1″ Square Dowel Rods – I used a piece of 1 x 2 and cut mine in half
  • 36″ – 1/4″ Wooden Dowel Rod – I used an old flag stick I had on hand
  • a little hand saw
  • drill bit one size larger than your wooden dowel rod
  • wood glue
  • paint or stain
  • hammer

Now that we have all the items to build our tea towel ladder…..let’s begin.

You will want to cut your dowel rods to the size you need.  My ladder is 16 inches tall and the inside width is 8 inches.

Here is what I used

  • 2 pieces of 1″ x 1″ in the length of 16 inches.
  • 3 pieces of 1/4″ round dowel rods in the length of 8 inches
  • sand each piece until smooth

To drill holes in your base sides.  Using a drill bit a larger than you dowel rod.

  • find the center and drill 1/4″ to 1/2″ inch deep into the center of the square dowel
  • 4 inches from each end drill another 1/4″ to 1/2″ inch deep into the center of the square dowel

This will house the round dowel pins.

Next step, painting or staining all your pieces.  I am painting mine with Waverly Truffle chalk paint because my pieces are not in shape to stain.  Once your pieces are all painted and dried it’s time to use the wood glue and slightly fill in the drilled holes.

Add all three round dowels in the glue filled holes.

Wipe off any excess glue with a damp paper towel.

Add the glue to the other base side and add the three round dowel pins.  Once all three are in  tight, I tapped lightly with a hammer to make sure all three are secured in the drilled holes.

I wipe off all the glue and touch up with my Truffle chalk paint.  I let that sit for 12 hours or so.  Once it dried I did a dry brushing with Waverly Ivory chalk paint.

Now it’s time to style your mini ladder!  You can add a tea towel, like I am going to do or whatever tickles your fancy!  Have fun styling your ladder, I know I am!!

    1. It would seem I don’t sleep, but I do. Every waken minute I am planning and plotting. Good thing I love piddling. I guess I take after my father. You could always find him out in his work shed working or making something. Thanks you so much Tammy.
