Hello friends!
I love the Dollar Tree pumpkins and how you can revamp them into so many different looks, but the one thing that isn’t easy are the stems. Well, today I want to share with you the different stems that I used on my DIY Dollar Tree revamped pumpkins.
I have used:
- rope
- twine
- stick
- and other items such as cinnamon sticks and potpourri sticks
Let’s get started on some of the stems I have on my pumpkins this year.
Rope twist stem:
I used the rope from Dollar Tree.
I cut three 6 inch strips.
Taking the three strips and wrapping two strips around one. Using hot glue to secure the rope to each other.
(Please excuse my painted fingers….I had a couple projects going on at once).
I twisted the two around the one about three times.
Hot gluing them all together at the end.
Fray both ends.
Apply hot glue to the center top of your pumpkin and placed the steam on the pumpkin making sure you spread out the frayed ends.
Rope wrapped stem:
Still using the rope from the Dollar Tree.
I cut six 5 1/2 inch strips and a 15 inch strip.
Taking the 6 strips and neatly placing them all together.
Cutting the ends so they are even.
Take hot glue and place a line of hot glue on your long piece of rope at the end and place it on the bundle leaving about 1/2 inch unwrapped at the end.
Start wrapping the rope around the six strips. Hot gluing down the long piece of rope as you wrap.
I glued and tucked the ends inside the wrapped rope.
Fray the short ends of the stem.
Place hot glue to the center of your pumpkin.
Spreading out your frayed ends and placing on the glued top of the pumpkin.
Twine stem:
Using a piece of cardboard tube (I used a ribbon tube from a pumpkin I made). Glue the end of the twine to the tube and wrap around until covered. I wrapped some twine around my four fingers and then tied around the loop cutting just one end. Tucking that into one end of the twine tube. To see the tutorial of this stem you can go HERE.
Stick stems:
For an old fashion pumpkin stem I am using a good size stick, hot glue and paint. Taking a stick, size is depending on what you want. I apply hot glue in a thin line from the top wrapping it down to the bottom. I used cool glue sticks to prevent myself from burning my fingers. I held the stick until the glue hardens.
Painted the glued stick brown and dry brushing it in ivory to enhance the glue lines. Glued it on top of my pumpkin.
For some of my pumpkin stick stems I add a puddle of glue to the bottom of the stem to form a little thickness and paint with the stem.
Adding gold leaf to a stick stem.
Plain stick
I did put a sealer on the stick. For the tutorial on how I made this pumpkin. You can click HERE.
I am sure there are many ways to make a cute pumpkin stem. These are just a few that I personally made. I would love to see how you made yours.
