DIY WREATH BOARD

Hey there!  Welcome to Decorate and More with Tip!  Here on my blog I share tips on how you can decorate your home on a budget by creating it from scratch, revamping, re-purposing or giving it a makeover with easy tutorials.  I hope I inspire you to create something beautiful for your home. 🙂

DIY Wreath Board

I posted my wreath board a week ago on Facebook, since then  I have had a couple of messages on where they can find the blog tutorial?  Well, I didn’t provide a tutorial on the wreath board. 🙁   Even though my board is completed, I am giving you a written tutorial with the finish results today for those followers wanting to see how I created it.

Like I have said, I made a list of things I wanted in my craft room way before I started working in the room.  On the list was something to place my wreaths on while decorating them.   I also needed it to be easy to store, as well.

Here are the supplies I used to make my wreath board:

  • one 24″ x 26″ board.  For my board I am using left over MDF from my workstation project
  • one  1″ x 2″ x 28″ board
  • one 1″ x 2″ x 6″ board
  • a small hinge
  • different lengths of wood screws – when using the screws make sure they are not longer than the piece you are attaching them into.
  • something to be used for a gripper.  I am using an old lid opener
  • one large hook or a very long nail.  I am using an old broken closet hook. (I told you I don’t throw anything away)

Tools you will need:

  • circular saw
  • drill with a drill bit smaller than the wood screws you are using
  • screw driver
  • upholstery stapler and staples
  • tape measure

I used the measurements 24″ x 26″  because I wanted it to be larger than my wreaths when placing on the board.  This size can be altered to your needs.

I cut one end at a 45º angle on the 1″ x 2″ x 28″.  Cutting the end at an angle allows the leg to sit flat on my surface.

I pre-drilled two holes on the 1″ x 2″ x 6″, one on each end of the piece.  I attached the piece to the top center of the board with wood screws.

I attached the hinge to the center of the 6″ piece with wood screws.  Make sure the hinge swings upwards.  After that was attached, I attached the flat end of the 28″  board to the hinge.

As you can tell all the materials I used were what we had on hand.  A little old and rusty, but they still do the trick.

To keep the leg from slipping off the surface, I created a gripper.

Using an old jar opener, I cut a large enough piece to wrap around the angled end.  I stapled it onto the leg, making sure not to staple on the bottom.  To hide the silver staples I painted the staples white.

Storing my board is so easy since I can fold up the leg and tuck it into the closet.

Turning the board over I added a hook to hold my wreath.  I measured to find the center of the board and attached it to the board with more wood screws.  I used a broken closet brace and bent it down to cover my screws, but a long nail or any large hook would work.

That’s it.  It’s a great piece to have if you love to decorate wreaths or swags.  You could paint your board if you want, but for mine I decided to keep it as is.

    1. Thanks Dori. I just love how easy it is to create a wreath or swag now that it is up facing me rather than laying down. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I love this Terrie, such a great idea! Pinning for myself, John can whip on together.

Your office/craft room is fantastic. You made this space perfect for your needs. I know you wanted your center tabke a bit larger. I came up with a similar idea to protect my work surface when painting pieces.

I will be sharing my craft room/office once it’s repainted the color us horrible.
