I found two Christmas soldiers in Dollar General that would make the perfect candleholder with a little revamping. Keep on reading how I turned two festive light-up soldiers into elegant Christmas candleholders!
They are adorable just how they are; however, wouldn’t they look even cuter as candleholders and painted?
First, I needed to find items to place to hold a candle. These two Dollar Tree candlesticks will do the trick, the base is a perfect size to hold a candle.
The bottoms come off by bending back and forth.
Now that I have the supplies, it’s time to start building my candleholders.
Removing the top of the hat by melting it around the edge.
I used my hot glue gun, which works, but a quicker way was using a soldering tool.
I added E6000 around the rim of the hat where I removed.
Place the candlestick bases upside down on top of the soldier’s hat.
With the rough cutting of the top, I am adding a bead of caulk between the top of the hat and the candlestick base.
Once the caulk was dry, I painted both candleholders with antique white chalk paint. Gave each three coats.
Let the paint dry thoroughly. I added some detailing with Antique gold craft paint.
I used gloss clear spray paint to seal my two pieces.
I’m really happy with how they turned out. What do you think of our Dollar General white and gold nutcracker candleholders? Let me know in the comments!
