Have you ever seen a vase with a marbleized finish and thought about creating something similar? Well, I haven’t either, 🙂 but today I am going to try it with a ginger jar.
It’s time for another monthly Creative Craft hop, this month we have 9 crafters sharing some awesome crafts. A special thanks to Sara, Birdz of a Feather for hosting the craft hop. At the bottom of my page I will share each participant’s link to their craft.
If you are coming over from Rachelle, My Hubbard Home, welcome!

This is going to be a messy project, so make sure you protect your work area.
Here’s the jar I will be pouring the paint on, I had this up in the attic for several years.
I primed the jar first, for some reason the paint cracked on the jar. It will be covered up in paint so I wasn’t too concerned.
I am using FolkArt craft paint in the colors Midnight Blue and Metallic Pure Gold.
POUR PAINTED GINGER JAR TUTORIAL
~ first step ~
Decide what main color , pour the main color in a cup. I guesstimated the amount.
Pour your secondary color next, same amount as the first color.
Add the main color in the cup, 1/2 the amount this time than the first.
~ second step ~
Pour your paint over the top of your item, slowly, making sure the paint flows evenly over the top of your item.
To help the paint flow down, tilt your jar in all different directions.
Place it on something to raise it off the surface to let the paint run down freely.
Apply more paint if you feel there’s not enough to cover your item.
~ third step ~
Keeping the paint moist by spraying with water, this will keep the paint flowing down.
~ fourth step ~
Before the paint dries, take a paint brush and paint the unpainted area with the excess paint.
Let dry completely.
~ last step ~
Seal your item, I am using clear Ultimate High Gloss by Rust-oleum.
I am very happy with the look and most of all, Kristin loves it! Can’t wait to see how it looks in her new office.

Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
Great tutorial and great final result. The gloss spray is what made it for me, though. It made the gold jump right out at me!
Terrie, what a great way to give panache to a plain vase. I’ve never done this paint technique although I’ve hear a lot about it. I’ll have to try it. Loved your color combo.
Thanks Carol. The colors are a pretty combination, I think too.
WOW! Tip, as soon as I saw the first picture of blue and gold paint I knew I would love what you were going to do.
I need a thrifted ginger jar stat!
Beautiful project 🙂
The two colors are so pretty together. Thank you Rachelle. I hope you find a jar to pour paint on. 🙂
Very pretty Terrie! I have done the pour method on canvas, it’s a lot of fun but yes, very messy! How smart to spray the paint with water to encourage it down the jar. There is a pouring medium you can buy at art supply stores that you mix into the paint~it makes the paint flow better, and you don’t have to use as much paint. It reduces crazing too. Your jar turned out beautifully!
The pouring medium would of been nice, thanks for the tip. I used a lot more paint than I should of. Thank you so much Jenna.
Terrie, this is lovely! Your paint technique makes the simple jar look so high end! Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction
Thank you Cecilia. It’s always nice working with you in this fun blog hop.
I love pour painting and never thought to do thrift store items, though! Thanks for the idea. Your jar turned out quite lovely! With pour painting, you just never know what the final look will be. It can be amazing. I always imagine seeing ‘images’ in the paint! Lol!
Thanks Gail. Yes, I agree it amazes me the design the paint makes, never the same design twice.
What a pretty makeover – and great colors too! Thanks for the tutorial. Happy Fall!
Shelley
Thanks Shelley! Happy Fall.
Wow, that turned out amazing Terrie. I see so many of those lack-lustre brown jars at the thrift store and this technique takes it up 1000 notches! Well done!
Thank you Sara! My daughter wanted the jar but not how it was as is. So blending the two colors she wanted was what I thought to do, instead of just spray paining it solid I thought to do this. It was fun watching the paint as it dripped!
Pretty!!!
Thank you Jodi. Hope you have a wonderful day!
Such wonderful color and easy technique for a vase or jar makeover! Happy to be crafting with you again, Happy Fall!
Thank you Mary! It was super easy, the patient part wasn’t so easy. ha! Happy Fall to you and your family Mary!
