FRENCH COUNTRY WALL SHELF

Have you moved something from a wall to be left with a bare wall?  That’s what happen to me in the master bedroom.  I took the shelf above the bed and placed it in our half bathroom.

Now the half bath is complete, I am focusing on finding a replacement shelf for the wall above the bed.  I remembered I had my corbel shelf in the closet.

I took it apart, cut a piece of board and purchased a wood decal to create a new shelf.

Supplies:

  • 12″x 1″ x 28″
  • 8″ x 1″ x 28″
  • a pair of wooden corbels
  • a pair of finials
  • wooden applique
  • wood glue
  • paintable caulk
  • wood filler
  • nail gun
  • wall hanger brackets
  • paint

How to make a corbel shelf

Attach the two boards smaller to the top of the larger board, add the corbels and finials to each side with wood glue and nails.

I filled all the crevices with paintable caulk and the nail holes with wood filler.  I cut the wooden applique to fit my board.  With the wood glue I centered to the shelf, filled the crevices with caulk.

Painted the entire shelf with Benjamin Moore Edgewood Grey.

I attached two wall brackets to the back of the shelf.

I placed it on the wall.  Working with what I had on hand, this shelf turned out pretty fantastic.   For now, it will stay up on the wall, but soon I will be doing a refresh in the Master bedroom!

Thanks for stopping by.  My hope for this blog post is for you to take something you already have and make it better!
