I have had several requests on how I built the frame on our guest bathroom’s mirror.

I am giving the guest bathroom a makeover, so I have already removed the frame from the mirror.  Maybe I can give you a step-by-step tutorial with the frame as is.

With the frame off I will give you the best tutorial I can.  Here is a Y-Tube video tutorial of another DIYer creating a frame for a mirror as well.

HOW TO FRAME A CONTRACTOR’S MIRROR

supplies

• 2 pieces of 1 x 4 board
• 2 pieces of 1 x 3 board
• 2 pieces of 1/2 inch decorative trim with flat backing
• 1 piece of crown moulding
• power grab adhesive
• paintable caulk
• gorilla tape

TOOLS

• saw (table or circular or hand)
• miter saw
• caulk gun
• tape measure
• pencil

First Step 

Measurer your mirror from side to side.  This will determine the size of 1 x 4 board you need.

Cut your board and trim piece to the measurements.   Attach the decorative trim with power grab to the bottom edge of your board. (Remember my frame is complete).

*Use power grab as direction states.

Step Two

Attaching your crown moulding with power grab to one of the 1 x 4 board, making sure the decorative trim is at the bottom of the board and the crown moulding at the top.

If your frame isn’t flushed with a wall, you will want to cut an outside corner to the end of your crown molding.

Step Three

Measure where the mirror brackets are on your mirror, cut notches out of the back side of your board to allow your board to lay flat on your mirror.

Step Four

Caulk all seams of your pieces, sand lightly and paint.

Step Five

Attach the top and bottom board to the mirror with power grab, applying a good amount of power grab to the back of your boards.  Apply pressure to the board on the mirror for 10 minutes, add strong tape to hold boards in place.

Step Six

Measure from the bottom of the top board to the top of the bottom board to get the measurements for the 1 x 3 side boards.  Hope that made sense.

Cut the 1 x 3 boards, sand lightly and paint the boards.

Attach to the side of the mirror, between the top and bottom board the same way as the others.

Step Seven

After 12 to 24 hours, caulk all seams and touch up paint.
