Today I want to share my JuJu hat tutorial. Have you seen a JuJu hat before? I have been obsessing with the African Juju hats from the first time I have seen them, plus I am loving the BoHo chic style these days. My Macrame table runner was the start of it all. The JuJu hats are very popular and are seen a lot in designer’s decor. Searching to buy one I was shocked at how much they run. Well, y’all know that I would rather try to make one than buy one. So that’s what I am doing. Here are the items I used for my JuJu hat wall decor:
- 5 packages of 2 yards of Duck Goose Feather Trim Fringe
- 1 Dollar Tree foam board
- white Duck Tape

My first step was making a circle on my foam board, I grabbed a piece of string, pen, tape, thumb tack and a ruler.
Finding the center of my foam board I placed a dot. Taking the thumb tack wrapping the string around the tack in the length I needed to make the size of my circle. I made sure I had 10 inches of string. Taping my string around my pen I drew a circle on my foam board.
Cut the circle out.
I cut a slit from edge to center in my circle. Overlapping the edges about 1 1/2 inches, taping it together with white duct tape.
This created the hat shape. I also taped the edges of my circle to give it a more finished look.
I marked 1 inch guide lines all around the hat. I measured 1 inch from each guide lines all the way to the center. This will help me keep my feather ribbon straight.
Taking the feather ribbon, a hot glue gun, many glue sticks and scissors.
I added the ribbon to each line with hot glue.
I cut my ribbon when the two ends met at each circle.
I continued to hot glue each ribbon to the circles same way until I got to the center.
From here I cut my feather ribbon into smaller sections and hot glued them into the center.
I cut smaller sections until it was all filled in.
I cut single feathers gluing them in the center sticking up.
Here is what mine looks like.
Here is my finished Juju hat !!
I placed a little picture ring on the back with hot glue. This is so light that it will be strong enough to hold. It’s as light as feathers. 🙂
I placed it above our bed.
I painted over the striped wall and gave the room a lighter color. I went with Sherwin Williams Perfect Greige – SW6073. Here is my new late summer bedding.
I found the flower throw pillow and fell in love. I coordinated the bedding around that throw pillow. It is an embroidery design and has a zipper enclosure.
Y’all know I love quilts on our bed. I went with a powder blue set, with a new white ruffled comforter.
Went less with the pillows, I used only three accent pillows. I made the little tray out of scrap wood and placed a little succulent on it. This will stay until I decorate for Fall. Gosh can you believe it? Fall will be here before you know it !!
