Here we are another week and still working to tie up all the projects we started in Kristin’s kitchen. We took a trip to Lowe’s to buy supplies before we jumped into the kitchen project.
First up, fixing the cabinet under the sink. The bottom board was damaged due to an old faucet leaking. The board had so much water damage it was falling apart, literally.
I couldn’t remove the bottom so I overlayed new boards on the top of it, nailed it to the foundation of the cabinet and painted it the color of the cabinet.
It’s not perfect, she ordered a rubber mat to cover the bottom just in case of any water leaks in the future. Marked that job off the list.
Second on my list, add the bottom cabinets and drawers back in their place.
Remember it is a work in progress, so nothing is picture perfect right now. Cabinets are all in place, mark that off my list.
Next up was finishing the farmhouse table, more stripping and sanding.
After we sanded the last time, Kristin decided she loves the color as is.
We wiped it all down with mineral spirits and sat to dry, we will add several coats of flat poly to the table and bench next week.
Table isn’t finished, but we have the hard part complete.
Next project was deciding what style for the focal wall in the dining area. She knew she wanted a board and batten, we were bouncing around two different styles, here are the two she was deciding on.
Grid Board and Batten
Modern Board and Batten
Both would look amazing, but we decided to do the modern board and batten, but in a different type of pattern.
Before I could even start on the wall, I needed to remove the chair rail trim on the wall now.
I carefully pried it off the wall. After removing the moulding, I scrapped off the old caulk, which removed some of the drywall paper. We will repair the wall next week.
I started in the center and worked out to each corner.
I finished installing the board and batten, filled all the nail holes and caulked all the seams.
We will repair the drywall and paint the wall next week.
By the time I finished with the wall it was after 1 am, we cleaned up and I headed home. It was a full day; I finished the list of things I wanted to get done. Until next week!
