Several years ago, I purchased the above two lamps in Kirkland’s. Their shape is still a favorite of mine, but instead of the silver tone I want more of a brown mango wood look. The inspirational is from the candleholders I place on my mantel.
Let’s take a closer look at the lamps I am working with. They are made of resin and has great details as the candleholders. To achieve the look of mango wood I will be doing several layers of different colors of paint.

Here are the supplies I will be using to change my lamps into a faux mango wood look.
Supplies:
- Waverly Chalk paint in Cashew, Fawn, Silver Lining and Antique Wax
- Apple Barrel paint in Melted Chocolate
- Chip brush
- Minwax Finishing Wax
- 220 grit sandpaper and a damp cloth
Faux Mango Wood Technique
First remove the lamp shades.
Prep the lamps; sand the lamp’s surface with 220 grit sandpaper, wipe down with a damp cloth.
Using the Cashew chalk paint first, I gave the lamps two coats, don’t forget to do the spinals as well.
To make sure you covered every square inch of your lamp base, turn the lamp upside down and give it one more coat of paint.
You will see all the places you missed.
Once dry, take the Fawn chalk paint and dry brush on the lamps with a chip brush.
Layering is the key to get the look I am aiming for. Next, I take the Melted Chocolate craft paint and the Silver Lining chalk paint painting all the crevices with straight lines. Starting with the brown paint adding lines to the outer crevices and with the silver lining to the inner crevices.
To soften the edges of the paint, take the chip brush and sweep lighly over the paint to smooth the edges.
Continue to do the same technique over the entire lamp base; let dry.
Apply one coat of antique wax to the entire lamp base and wipe off.
When totally dry, add a coat of Minwax paste finishing wax to seal the paint. Follow the directions on the can of wax.
That’s it!! I added the lamp shades back on the lamps. Look at my lamps, I love them.
Thanks for watching my lamp transformation. I hope I inspired you!
