Hello friends! Welcome! Hope this finds you doing great. I finished with my fall decorations and decorated the kitchen. Have you started with your decorations or will you put any out? Mine is done besides making a wreath for my front door.
The blog page today will be a tour of our Master bedroom closet. Actually, ours is connected to the master bathroom. I am glad that it is off the bathroom instead of in our master bedroom it gives me more wall space in our bedroom. If you are just now joining us and missed the tour of our Master Bedroom HERE and our Master Bathroom HERE.
Here is my side of our master closet. I won’t tour my husband’s side since it is just like mine beside the bottom shelves of his unit stores our bath towels and bed linens.
Our closet is a nice size. 8′ x 10′. When we were designing the closet shelving unit I knew that I wanted to have cabinets to hold our under garments in. We purchased two wall units from Home Depot and placed them on both sides of the long wall. After 19 years of use they are still in good condition. I have my side and my husband has his. Somehow through the years after our children grown and moved out, we incorporate their closets too. I have one that is designated my “craft closet”. We have a 4 bedroom home so that leaves two other closets for us to use. Instead of cramming all of our clothes in our closet we only put in the season we are wearing and the opposite season in the spare closets. One good thing about being an empty nesters.
I remember when the kids were small and we lived in a 3 bedroom home with very small closets. Boy….that was tight. I used to have to store all of our clothing that wasn’t weather appropriate in tubs up in the attic. When it was time to change the clothing to fit that season I would have to wash them all and iron them. UGH! That was a job, I did it for several years. I am very lucky to have a closet system that allows me to keep them on hangers all year around.
I like the full mirror on the back wall for getting dressed. Some day I would love to have a built in shoe shelf that goes all up that back wall, but for now we just use shoe caddies.
I like an organized closet. I won’t spend a lot of money for bins and baskets to be used. The Dollar Tree has cloth bins they have all different sizes. They are not the sturdiest but for what I use them for they work just fine. I hide my shoes and other items up on the shelf in them. I use to have shoe boxes up there in all different colors and sizes, some boxes were torn or ripped. These bins help keep it looking organized and pretty. I wouldn’t use them on a regular basis they are pretty flimsy. They are mostly used to keep things hide for me. Just a more cleaner look.
For a $1.00 I think they work great.
On the top shelf I have two over night bags. I like to keep them handy for our weekend get a ways. The bags have all of our little travel needs. One is for my clothing and the other one is for my hair care stuff. Really, I do need two bags. ha! As you can see I have several of those cloth bins from the Dollar Tree. All the top bins hold my shoes that I am not wearing for the season.
The middle shelving unit I have clothing in those to keep that space clean. The bottom I removed the shelf and placed my jewelry armorer inside the space. I am looking for a jewelry chest to go in there but just haven’t found what I am looking for, might have to be a DIY.
I added a little beauty to the bottom shelf. It is a narrow space. It is a good space to lay my jewelry out or place my glasses when I am getting ready. Again, a very old picture of the two of us. I am going to update my photo frames one of these days!
Along the bottom of the floor on my side I placed shoe caddies for my shoes. Not the neatest area. I need to figure another way to store my shoes. Any ideas or tips you can give me?
I know that some of you are not as lucky and do not have a large closet area. Yes…I love my closet and am very lucky. If you have a small closet and want to make it look nicer than it does, here is a good tip. Just changing out the hangers to one type of hanger instead of several different kind will make a huge difference.
Below is a closet using different hangers.
Changing the hangers to one type. See how it looks better?
Also above as you can see they went with color organization. Some of you have to share your closet. I remember when my husband and I had to share ours. That was tight. Maybe start with the darker colors at the at the ends meeting both of your whites in the center. Just an idea.
I do not color organize my closet but instead I put my shirts in order going from camisoles to long sleeves. etc.
Do you have problems with your clothing falling off the hanger because the neckline is larger than the hanger? Here is a little tip that I do, take you hot glue gun and put a little glue on each shoulder part at the end of the hanger. I do this a lot. Let the glue dry and then hang your garment. It works, I am telling you.
To every project I work on, the first thing I do is take everything out of the space. I love starting with a clean slate. In the closet I do remove everything out of it twice a year. I change out our clothing for the season. When I have everything out I clean real good. You don’t see the dust until everything is out. When putting things back I always put the clothing facing the same way and try to keep them in the order as I told you above. By the end of the season, my husband’s side….not so much, but I do have to say at least he does hang his clothes back up.
So that brings us to the end of the tour. I hope you enjoyed our master bedroom closet tour. I hope you enjoy my helpful tip on the hangers to create a cohesive look. Thanks for stopping by.

Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
