I recently finished up decorating the hutch and wanted to give y’all a look before the kitchen nook reveal tomorrow.  Plus, I’m sharing some tips for styling your hutch decor.

I am trying something new, the “less is best” in decorating.  We will see if I leave it as I decorated it today or add more to it as time goes by.

Simple Way to Decorate your Hutch.

Step 1:

Always start with your top shelf and work your way down. I like to start in the middle of the top shelf and make my way out.

This styling I left some space empty on either side of the shelf.

There are several ways to layer – by height, by size and by texture.   For example, take a look at the photo below.  On the top shelf I placed a large wicker platter, it has texture and is the largest piece on the shelf.  In front of the platter, I placed a two-handle black vase with faux eucalyptus stems.

Step 2:

Once you have your top shelf styled you can move on to the shelf below it. I like to group the decorations in two sections when styling a simple vignette on the shelf above.

As you can see in the photo above, I divided the shelf in half, this way you can created two vignettes.  I also keep in mind the color of each item I used on the other shelf to keep the color weighing too heavy on one side.

I placed two black metal risers to carry the black from the vase used on the top shelf.

The cake stands were found on Amazon.  Set of 3 stands, large, medium and small.  I used the medium and the small stand.

To the other side, keeping with my color scheme I brought in some blue decor.

The frame mimics the wicker platter on the top shelf, adding layers with the stack plates and bowls with a pop of greenish brown with the pears  gives the shelf a pop of color, which doesn’t make the eyes stop suddenly, but keeps them flowing to the next shelf.

Again, adding a small pop of black with the salt and pepper shakers.

Step 3:

When styling a shelf, if you drew an imaginary line from the top to the bottom, the goal is to create visual interest and keeps the eye moving around the hutch.

As you can tell on my hutch, I created a single vignette to the top shelf and ended with a single tray vignette to the bottom of my hutch.

I also kept in mind the colors I used on the shelf above.  I placed the greenery in a black container and placed folded up blue dish towels to the other side of the tray.  Adding a neutral prayer bead to the towels added a light wood grain to the tray.
