Let’s get creative today! I am going to give an update to an old window frame. I found this window frame years ago at a flea market, we have painted it two different times, today I am going to strip it down to the bare wood and add some hardware to dress this window up to place in our laundry.

Prepping the Window

I used 40 grit sandpaper to get as much paint off as possible.

Applying Citristrip stripping gel to finish removing the unwanted paint. I wrapped the wood with saran wrap to speed up the process.

It’s best to let it sit for an hour. Once it had enough time to start processing, I used a wire brush scrapping off as much paint as possible.

After all the paint has been removed, I wiped it all down with mineral spirits and gave the window one coat of poly.

Adding Rustic to the Window

Here is where I get creative. I purchased a Mini-Barn Door Hardware Rail kit several years ago to apply to a bathroom mirror. We didn’t use, so I decided to use it on this window. I didn’t have the flat rail to give the look I needed, I cut a piece of scrap wood for a faux look of the railing.

I spray painted the piece of wood with flat black paint. I attached the piece to the top of my window frame with my nail gun.

I drilled two holes to each side of the top window frame to place the roller brackets.

With the nuts and bolts provided in the kit, I attached rollers to the window frame. I made sure the wheels were on top of the faux railing.

I attached a black handle to the bottom of the window frame.

The last thing to be added to the window was two D ring picture hangers. I placed one to each side of the top part of the frame in the back.

It’s ready to be hung up on the wall.

This window can be used in any room in the house! It is rustic yet could be used in different styled home. I hope this encourages you to try your hand in giving an old window new life.
