Painting furniture is a tough job, especially when you just finished with a piece. But it’s worth it when you finally see them all finished!
As you all know, I am giving a cohesive look throughout our home, working one room at a time. To keep it budget friendly, I am working with the furniture I have, giving it a new look in the process.
Here’s the look of the cabinet before I painted it.
I am sure this piece is outdated in today’s interiors, but I don’t even care. Our homes are decorated the way we want it and how it makes us feel, right?
Today, I want to share how easy it is to change the look of something by simply painting it. First thing I did was remove the drawer and cleaned the piece with TSP cleaner. TSP is used to clean and treat surfaces prior to painting.
Since I didn’t want to sand the piece, I used Kilz2 Primer. I have to say, this is the first time using the Kilz primer, Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 Primer is better, which I usually use when painting furniture.
I painted the wine cabinet the same color as the entryway table and front door, Cracked Pepper by Behr. This will help flow the color theme from the foyer into the dining room.
Painted the first coat, sanded lightly and wiped the dust away before I painted two more coats. After the paint dried, I applied two coats of Minwax Paste Finishing Wax.
While the wax was drying on the cabinet, I took the hardware outside to give them a coat of Rust-Oleum Metallic Gold spray paint.
By painting the cabinet to match the entryway table ties the two room nicely.
I haven’t truly decorated the dining room as of yet, due to giving the room a refresh. The first project was this wine cabinet, next, I hope, will be the dining room chairs.
