I love this blog hop; it gets my creative juice flowing.  I don’t do as many crafts as I would like to do.  Today’s craft I am going to create a high-end bowl that you might find a lot in decorator’s list of must haves.

DIY Restoration Hardware DUPE

The items you will need to recreate the high-end bowl:

  • bowl
  • saran wrap
  • oil (I used spray oil)
  • hot water
  • joint compound mixture
  • organic peat cell
  • container for mixing
  • rubber gloves

Prepare the organic peat.

  • Bring 3 cups of water to a boil.

  • While the water is boiling, tear up two of the cells in small pieces.
  • Pour 3 cups of water into the ripped peat pieces.

  • Let sit for 20 minutes.

Prepare the bowl form.

  • Wrap the entire bottom of the bowl in saran wrap.
  • Spray the wrapped bowl with oil.
  • Drain the excess water from the peat pieces.
  • Squeeze out all water as possible.
  • Add one cup of joint compound to the peat mixture.
  • Mix well.

Form the bowl.

  • Apply layers of the peat mixture to the saran wrapped bowl.

  • Form the shape of the bowl you want.  The thicker the mixture the better.

  • Let dry several days.  It says only hours, but it took two days for mine to dry.

  • Remove the saran wrapped bowl from the peat formed bowl.
  • Let it dry for another 2 hours.

For my bowl, I am leaving it exactly the same.  You could shape your bowl with sand paper or paint it to the color you want.  I like how mine looks just like it is.

Take a look at how my bowl looks styled on my entryway table.

It could be used to place keys or other small personal items in or just for styling.  Other way, it’s a beautiful budget friendly piece to style in our home.

Well that concludes my creative craft, let me know what you think about my Restoration Hardware dupe.

  3. Wow Terrie, this is incredible! It’s like you made something from nothing! It looks great on your table and the things you styled it with~ Happy crafting!

  4. I agree with Sara. This is a whole new paper mache. I love the look you get from the peat pots – it almost looks like stone. Great project!

  5. This is a far cry from the paper mache I did as a kid! You’ve inspired me to try this out again. So happy to hear that the hop gets your creative juices flowing; you’re project is amazing Terrie!
