Hello! I am back at working on decorations for the baby shower. The last little item I want to add to the guest tables is a garland.
I thought about purchasing the garlands at Hobby Lobby since they are running 50% off all their garlands this week. Their lowest garland price was $10.00 a garland. I just couldn’t see paying that much for garland, remember I am needing 5 for the shower. I came home and put my thinking cap on. I came up with the idea of making a leaf garland from two old leaf bundles I had tucked away for our next yard sale. I grabbed 2 of the same bundles of leaves to use for my garland and I purchased 5 jute wire cord from Dollar Tree.

Supplies:
- leaf bundles enough to make at least 60 or more leaves
- Dollar Tree Jute Wire Cord
- hot glue and glue gun
- scissors
- wire snips
First step is to cut each of the jute wire code to 5 feet.
The hardest and longest process of this DIY is cutting the leaves. I want a very simple garland not thick and bulky. I am cutting my leaves to resemble a lemon tree leaf.
I removed the leaf from the bundle and the back spine of the leaf. My bundle of leaves has a plastic spine that removes very easily.
- Cut the leaf in half
- fold one part in half
- cut the leaf shape you want.
For my garland I am cutting 62 leaves.
Now to start making the garland.
Starting with one end of the cord working your leaves downward. Add hot glue to the end and place a leaf to the top of the cord.
Keep adding glue under the previous leaf and place the next leaf going the opposite direction of the leaf above. You want your leaves to be going the opposite direction of each other. Keep adding leaves in the same pattern.
To finish off the garland, glue a smaller leaf around the end of the cord and place a leaf on top.
This makes a very simple garland, if you want to add more leaves to your garland just keep adding leaves to the cord, just go with it. 🙂 Take my idea and make it your own.
If you check thrift stores or yard sales you might find leaf bundles at a reasonable price. No matter what the shape you can always change them now that I shared how.
I finished all 5 garlands. I love how they look.

What a fun idea! I haven’t made my own leaf garlands before but maybe I’ll have to try!
Pretty easy to make. I have bundles of leaves which was good to put two bundles to go use. I hope you make one for yourself. Add more leaves to make a fuller garland or cut your leaves or leave them as is….whatever you do it will be a beautiful garland because you made it!
Your garlands turned out awesome, Terrie!! They look just like you bought them at Hobby Lobby !! So budget friendly too!!🥰
Thanks Christine. I found one similar to the one I made and it as $19.99…no way would I spend that on a garland, even for my home. It turned out great. Better than I would of thought. Thanks for stopping by Christine, have a great weekend.
